I found this wonderful site and Peter, its delightful owner, the other day, while looking for an old children's record we enjoyed so much when I was growing up: click here.

If you've ever wanted to find a favourite from childhood that somehow got lost over time, chances are this guy will have it. He prefers trading to selling and has reasonable prices for providing one with a cassette of the original, if that it what you prefer.

Here's what his home page says:

My discography/labelography research project My "hobby" is a combination collection and research project. I am in the process of compiling a complete archive of children's 78-rpm records produced in the United States (and a few foreign ones thrown in here and there). This includes actually acquiring the records as well as creating a discography of over 200 labels, some exclusively "kiddie" (e.g. Golden Records) and others which had both children and adult titles (e.g. Columbia).

This is a labor of love and will probably never be completed. Many of the record companies which issued kiddie records have long since gone out of business and did not leave behind any archives. But it is lots of fun, especially because most of my research is "first time"--in other words, there are no existing complete anthologies of all kiddie records across the board. Sure, there are some advanced collectors and researchers, but most are focused on a particular segment (e.g. Disney characters, picture discs, etc.)

Thanks,

kat

As a complete musical ignoramus, I've learned a lot browsing Mudcat, but this is the first time I've been able to contribute any musical info. This link:
http://kiddierecords.com is a collection of children's recordings released in the US from the mid 1940's through the early 1950's. You can listen on the site, or download (looks like you have to pay for downloads - haven't tried it myself).
