Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Walk A Mile In My Shoes From: khandu Date: 20 Feb 02 - 07:34 PM Joe South was a great song writer. Without Joe, Billy Joe Royal would not have made it to where he is today. His songs have been done by country singers and rock singers. He was a fine wordsmith and I am somewhat surprised at how unrecognzed he is. I noticed that I have been saying "was". I assume Joe is still with us. khandu |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Walk A Mile In My Shoes From: khandu Date: 20 Feb 02 - 11:12 PM South, 68, is semi-retired and living in Atlanta. He no longer gives interviews, but his music still speaks for itself. In addition to writing I Beg Your Pardon for Lynn Anderson and Down in the Boondocks for Billy Joe Royal, he became a pop star in his own right in the 1970s with such hits as Walk a Mile In My Shoes, Don't It Make You Want to Go Home, and Games People Play. He played guitar on recording sessions for Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan, and Simon and Garfunkel. He moved to Nashville in 1961 but soon returned to Atlanta, where his career took off. He last released an album in 1975, but new acts continue to cover his songs to this day. (www.americanprofile.com) Remember "Hush,hush..I thought I heard her calling my name now"? He wrote that too. khandu |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Walk A Mile In My Shoes From: GUEST,Arkie Date: 23 Feb 02 - 12:38 AM Besides the songs already mentioned I also liked "Birds of a Feather" and "These Are Not My People". I've also thought he deserved much more attention than he has received. I've only heard songs from one lp I picked up years ago, but it was played a lot and every song was a gem. Can't say that about too many lps or CDs. |
