Subject: RE: I Can Sing A Rainbow lyrics/Chords From: Sally Date: 28 Jan 97 - 11:55 PM I think the song is from an old Peggy Lee movie. Can't remember the movie, but the song goes (in part) Red, and yellow, and pink and green, Orange, and purple, and blue, I can sing a rainbow, Sing a rainbow, Sing a rainbow, too. Hope this jogs a memory somewhere because I've been singing this to my grandbabies but only know this one verse and would like to know the rest. |

Subject: Lyr Add: I CAN SING A RAINBOW (Arthur Hamilton) From: Joe Offer Date: 05 Feb 97 - 02:27 AM I CAN SING A RAINBOW (Arthur Hamilton)
Red, and yellow, and pink and green
Listen with your eyes,
Red, and yellow, and pink and green
The song was featured in the move, "Pete Kelly's Blues," and Peggy Lee recorded it on Decca in 1955. It's on her wonderful "Black Coffee" 2-disk set on Decca. Now, if only Capitol would come out with a generous collection - they don't seem to want to put all her hits on one CD. |

Subject: RE: I Can Sing A Rainbow lyrics/Chords From: Tony Date: 14 Feb 97 - 10:25 PM I agree with Joe Offer. Thoes were the words that I remember. In the Philladelphia area there was a show called Captian Noah that had the song as it's theme. |
Subject: RE: I Can Sing A Rainbow lyrics/Chords From: GUEST,TingTing Date: 25 Aug 02 - 01:21 AM I am so happy that I can find the lyric of this song!! The first time I heard this song is from my school choir and I always want to find the lyric. I have not heard the original version. But I like my school choir version too, cos it is sung by child. Is the original version sang by child too? Does anyone know where can I download this song's MP3? Thanks~ |
Subject: RE: I Can Sing A Rainbow lyrics/Chords From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 25 Aug 02 - 01:53 AM Sally: Pete Kelly's Blues is one of my favorite movies. It is available on VHS and I think, on DVD, and there are two soundtracks. One has a narration by Pete Kelly and is all instrumental, the second is a Japanese import which has several songs by Peggy Lee, including I Can Sing AS Rainbow, and several others from the movie by Ella Fitzgerald. I have both CDs... and the movie. It's well worth watching. If you want more information, P.M. me... Jerry |

Subject: RE: I Can Sing A Rainbow lyrics/Chords From: GUEST,jim Date: 27 Aug 02 - 07:48 PM Thanks gang. I was just thought of this song from my youth (first exposure - Captain Kangaroo, early 60s) this evening as something I want to sing to my 2 y/o granddaughter in the coming years. Searched on the title and you were first up. I don't know about the key of C but it's a great place to start. Regards to all! Jim Wass Riverdale, Maryland |
Subject: RE: I Can Sing A Rainbow lyrics/Chords From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 27 Aug 02 - 08:02 PM Funny, reading this thread.. I never thought of the song as a Children's Song. I remember it when I was in college, not singing it at summer camp. The song was very touching in the movie, because Peggy Lee's character had a mental breakdown and reverted to being a little child, in her mind. The scene where she sings the song is very moving, and disturbing. Not a tv kid's show moment. But, I can understand why the song took on its own life... it's a fine song. Jerry |
