*Sigh*

First day without the olympics. Has it been 17 days already?

So I guess I'd better go into therapy and admit I was an Olympic junkie. I was off work for the two weeks and tried to stuff in as much Games watching as I could.

Even with all the scandals and bad judging, it was a helluva Olympics. Now, being from Canada, I will have somewhat of a bias to my country, as I suspect anyone will for their country. But I saw great achievements for many countries that are stuck in my head, so I thought all of us could share them.

What are some of the moments of the Olympic games that you remember? Good or Bad, it doesn't really matter. Perhaps it wasn't an athletic feat... just something you noticed.

Some for me:
1. Gold medal match for men's curling - Canada vs. Norway. Came down to the final stone of the match. If Canada puts their rock closer to the centre, they win. But Martin's shot was a little heavy and they lost by what some are calling less than a quarter-inch. It was that close. Great match.
2. Saliva. Alot of saliva. Perhaps HDTV is not the best idea coming. Forget anti-doping for the cross-country skiers, give 'em rabies shots....looks like they need it.
3. short-track speed skating. Or NASCAR on skates. These guys and gals believe in the sayin "rubbin's racin" I honestly do not understand why we don't see this sport more often everywhere. Rednecks would eat this stuff up.

I have more, but I'm going to open the floor. But one last thing, being the guy that I am..... There were a few hot babes at these Olympics... some married, I assume some not.
But if any of you Scot catter's out there know Fiona McDonald the curler, tell her I'm proposing. :)
If not her, perhaps Jamie Sale from Canada, (she's going out with a figure skater, I can take him....... I think..... Just let him try to triple Salchow my ass.... I'll take him out.)
Or who was the Aussie that won the Aerial Freestyle? Little blond cutie. Kelly Law was hot too.

Anyways, I digress. :)

Steve

I think the REAL treat in pulchitrude was for the ladies! Did anyone see the skating demo, where the camera followed the male skater in for his change of costume? Stripped off his shirt, then his pants...and the camera got a shot of his skivvies before realizing they'ed better pan up!...(the commentator kidded that they'd better switch to cable!).....but *sigh*...no one followed the women skaters for costume changes...(or perhaps it was on pay-per-view)

me...I like ski jumping, luge/skeleton.....and yes, curling!...if could understand it better!.....It is REAL competition where a team works with its own members and against the other team..without violence!...It is pool and chess on ice...and you get to listen to the teams discuss strategy out loud!...What a great sport!

I know nothing about curling, but given that strength doesn't seem to be a factor, why is it a segregated sport?

Sara Hughes was awsome! The Canadian figure skating couple really earned the gold. The Russians are suffering from "Sour grapes". The best thing about the Olympics? Now I can get back to Judge Joe Brown!

Airto... "but given that strength doesn't seem to be a factor, why is it a segregated sport?"

Just a guess, but, it wasn't all that long ago that women were banned from most pubs, and the curling club has always been as much of a pub as a curling club. I assume ladies got to curl only during events or on special nights.

Could be, Gnu, but I doubt the IOC would like to give that sa the reason. I'm going to ask the question again over in the curling thread which I've just seen.

Lots of good stories out of this one.........canadians swept the hockey (congrats folks); Jim Shea alone was a good thing; Short track? Yaeh, Steve, NASCAR on ice...; All the sliding comp was excellent-Luge, Skeleton, and Bob were all great with some fine stories in each from Granny Luger to the male and female African-Americans and Brian Shimer's final run..........Lots of good stories.

I posted elsewhere that I got hooked on Curling. Once you watch and understand the game, it's really pretty wonderful..Chess with 42 pound pieces....and a lot of talented players!

Steve, if you want to come down and visit, LeighAnn Parsley (Silver in Skeleton) lives just a few miles away in Granville. She's a big story around here obviously....a firefighter and an Olympic Silver medal now too. She's good lookin' to boot!!!!

Spaw
