Subject: Lady Mechanic, The From: Charley Noble Date: 25 Feb 02 - 06:02 PM I can't seem to find a trace of this song anywhere, since I heard it sufused in an alcoholic haze at my small liberat arts college back in the early 1960's. I don't think it was intended as an affirmative action song, although it has some potential. You really need to have a 12-string guitar to beat this one out. I'd be interested if anyone has any other verses, like one for that lady in orange. To get the chords to plop into place copy and paste into WORD/Times/ 12: LADY MECHANIC, THE (Anon. Collected at Bowdoin College in the early 1960's) G I know a lady dressed in black, -------------------------G7 She makes her living on her back – -------------------C She's a lady me-chanic, -------------------G She's a lady me-chanic, ---------D----------------------D7------------G She's a lady mechanic and I love her any-how. I know a lady dressed in red, She makes her living going from bed to bed – She's a registered nurse…(as above) I know a lady dressed in green, She makes her living pounding meat lean – She's a lady butcher…(as above) I know a lady dressed in brown, She makes her living going up and down – She's an elevator operator…(as above) I know a lady lives on a hill, Every night she gets her fill – She's a blueberry picker…(as above) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Lady Mechanic, The From: technission Date: 26 Feb 02 - 12:28 AM This seems like an entertaining song. Concerning the lady dressed in orange - I'm sure I have seen a cartoon strip titled "Rhymes with Orange" and I always assumed from that title that there *is* no english word rhyming with orange. I can't confirm that, but I haven't thought of any. Sounds like a rhyme challenge taking shape.... 8># michael |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Lady Mechanic, The From: Mrrzy Date: 26 Feb 02 - 12:31 PM Although upon further reflection I'd like it better if she were just a plain mechanic - you'll note she isn't a LADY nurse! |
