Subject: Chord Request : I Remember You From: RichM Date: 26 Feb 02 - 09:52 AM Id be grateful if anyone could tell me the guitar chords for this song. It was a hit in 1962 for the Aussie singer, Frank Ifield; written by Johnny Mercer,I believe. Rich McCarthy |
Subject: RE: Chord Request : I Remember You From: Murray MacLeod Date: 26 Feb 02 - 10:17 AM Rich, if you feel up to it you might want to work your way through This scholarly dissertation on the "I Remember You" chords Remember it was done as a slow song long before Frank Ifield aussified it up .... Subject: RE: Chord Request : I Remember You From: Kenny B (inactive) Date: 26 Feb 02 - 06:51 PM The infamous outrageous Hector Nicol is quoted as saying that there was a punk version of this song called " I remember You Ya Bastard" Please forgive the language I learned from a tram conductress after dropping? a large brass musical instrument onto her foot.*BG* ;>) Kenny B |
Subject: RE: Chord Request : I Remember You From: RichM Date: 26 Feb 02 - 08:16 PM The lyrics sound interesting, Kenny...Now, what are the chords?? :) |
Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: I REMEMBER YOU From: Murray MacLeod Date: 27 Feb 02 - 02:58 AM As far as I can remember, (and it is over forty years since I heard Frank Ifield sing this ) these are pretty much the chords for this classic Johnny Mercer song.
In some places I have given two chords, where either could be used, mostly a Cmaj7/Em choice. Also, if my memory serves me right, although the song is in the key of C it actually ends in G. Having said that, it probably isn't sung in the key of C at all, but transposition should be quite simple. Murray |

Subject: RE: Chord Request : I Remember You From: RichM Date: 27 Feb 02 - 03:37 AM Thanks, Murray. That's just what I need. Now all I have to do is teach it to the guitar player :) Rich McCarthy |
Subject: RE: Chord Request : I Remember You From: GUEST,T-boy Date: 27 Feb 02 - 07:55 AM Sorry, Murray, gotta disagree with your second chord. Should be B7 (try it!). |
Subject: RE: Chord Request : I Remember You From: Murray MacLeod Date: 27 Feb 02 - 08:19 AM Yes, Guest T-Boy is perfectly correct, it should indeed be a B7 instead of the Em/Cmaj7 I suggested as the second chord. Sorry, what can I say, it was late at night, my lady was asleep and I was doing it all in my head without the aid of the guitar .... Murray

Subject: RE: Chord Request : I Remember You From: Murray MacLeod Date: 27 Feb 02 - 09:10 AM Frank Ifield was an Australian singer who had a string of chart thits in Britain in the early Sixties. Apart from his devastating good looks, his trademark was a very accomplished yodel, which he incorporated into all his hits, as I recall. He also had a big hit with Hank Williams "Lovesick Blues". I suspect that Hank Williams was a major early influence on the yodelling Aussie. Murray |
Subject: RE: Chord Request : I Remember You From: RichM Date: 27 Feb 02 - 10:20 AM I'd forgotten about Slim Richey's version. Incredible voice. My interest in this song was revived on Friday evening at a house concert featuring Terry Tufts, a folksinger and monster fingerpicker from Ottawa (Canada). Terry does a worthy version too. Rich |
Subject: RE: Chord Request : I Remember You From: VoxFox Date: 27 Feb 02 - 11:35 AM Has anyone heard Diana Kralls version? Whoooeee, I like that girl's voice. It is on her latest CD "The Look Of Love". I must confess I keep hearing Frank Ifield's version though in my head and want to sing it that way but I like her style. VF |
Subject: RE: Chord Request : I Remember You From: C-flat Date: 27 Feb 02 - 01:05 PM Am I missing something? Two postings today linked to yodelling? I remember supporting Frank way back in the seventies at a working men's club in the North of England and he was on his way out then! Impressive yodel, but I couldn't help feeling "what's all that about?" Poor Frank must have getting on a bit even then........."I remember...Er...What's that line again?" Maybe Robbie Williams is going to release a new Yodel-meets-Swing type C.D. I'm placing my advance order now! |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: I Remember You From: Brakn Date: 19 May 10 - 05:07 AM I have the sheet music somewhere. I'm sure it was in the musical "The Fleet's In". |
