Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Nobody's Child (from Alexander Brothers) From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 10 Oct 08 - 06:55 PM Here's the Travelling Wilbury's version, which is OK. Sadly, Lonnie Donnegan's rendering doesn't seem to be up in Internet Heaven. That's the one that I hear in my head whoever is singing it. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Nobody's Child (from Alexander Brothers) From: GUEST,Ken Brock Date: 10 Oct 08 - 05:09 PM This was also recorded by The Traveling Wilburys on a a various artists album to raiae funds for Romanian orphans. It was not on a legit Wilbury's album until the 2Cd 1 dvd reissue a year ago. Thus Harrison recorded it twice, with two different groups. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Nobody's Child (from Alexander Brothers) From: mauvepink Date: 10 Oct 08 - 07:55 AM "I'd walk the streets of Heaven where all the blind can see. " is a killer line too Syndney Devine did a brilliant version in the 70's I recall. He really knew how to drag tears from your ducts with panache. In a more C & W vein "Me and Little Andy" (Dolly Parton) is an absolute box of tissues seller along with "Wino the Clown" (George Jones) best wishes mp |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: nobody's child.....alexander brothers From: Jim Dixon Date: 03 Mar 02 - 02:40 PM Sorcha: I am astonished and chagrined. After a bit of research, I found that "Nobody's Child" was recorded by the Beatles (without Ringo Starr, and with Tony Sheridan and Pete Best) in Hamburg in 1961. It was released as the B-side of "Ain't She Sweet" in 1964. It was re-released as part of the album "In The Beginning" in 1970. That album is now available as a CD. I suppose the Beatles learned it from Lonnie Donegan? He recorded it too, but I don't have the date. Live and learn, as they say. Thanks, Sorcha. |

Subject: Lyr Add: NOBODY'S CHILD (sung by Hank Snow) From: Jim Dixon Date: 01 Mar 02 - 10:17 AM Transcribed from Hank Snow's recording at the Record Lady's site. This has 2 more verses than the one given above. NOBODY'S CHILD (Coben/Foree) I was slowly passing an orphan's home one day. I stopped there for a moment just to watch the children play. Alone a boy was standing, and when I asked him why, He turned with eyes that could not see and he began to cry: CHO: I'm nobody's child. I'm nobody's child. I'm like a flower just growing wild. No mommy's kisses and no daddy's smile, Nobody wants me. I'm nobody's child. People come for children and take them for their own, But they all seem to pass me by and I am left alone. I know they'd like to take me, but when they see I'm blind, They always take some other child and I am left behind. No mother's arms to hold me or soothe me when I cry. Sometimes it gets so lonely here, I wish that I could die. I'd walk the streets of Heaven where all the blind can see, And just like all the other kids, there'd be a home for me. SPOKEN: I just can't seem to figure out why the folks all pass me by, 'Cause I know that it's true that God takes little blind children with Him in the sky. And they tell me that I'm oh-so-pretty and they seem to like my big curls of gold, But then they take some other little child and I am left here all alone. CHO. [I think Jerry is pulling our leg about the Beatles.] |
