Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: SharonA Date: 28 Feb 02 - 10:09 AM Aw, mannnnnnnn...... Sorry to hear that you'll have to go through another procedure before this thing is taken care of. I wonder if there's a way to get in touch with Julie Andrews (or her people) to find out which doctors she saw to restore her voice to its present level after she suffered that botched surgery. Ditto the thoughts expressed above, that your doctor was wise to stop at "half a job" when he realized that your condition was worse than he'd thought and more than he could handle safely. Good thoughts and hopes for the best outcome of this situation, heading up the eastern seaboard to you from PA. And hooray for SINSULL! Sharon |

Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: GUEST,Pete Peterson Date: 28 Feb 02 - 09:03 AM you are in my thoughts! You are getting lots of advice-- hope you do what you think best for YOU & not what other people WANT you to do. THis must be scary! as you see you have lots of support & good wishes here-- wish I could do something more concrete. PETE |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: InOBU Date: 28 Feb 02 - 09:02 AM I surmise you got hit by a hocky puck? I missed the first post, I suppose. Well, things may get much better. I had a fairly worrysome opperation to remove a cyst from right over my vocal cords. My throat was over an inch off center from it. As you can emagine, as a singer I was a bit worried. Even with one of the top specialists, he found, when he had the hard hat on and was down digging in my throat, things were worse than he thought. He had to take out some bone and strap tendons. Right after the opporation, things were VERY hard, stiff and numb, but, as folks tell me, my voice came back, pretty much the same, I think over a short time. I also have these great railway tracks accross my throat, which are a great conversation piece. So, don't give up, and remember, as we see with the late Dave Van Ronk, we use the voice we are given. I hope and pray your voice is as it was, and as you want it, and know, whatever the outcome, you will find music in the voice you have. Photos of the railway tracks avaiable by email for the currious and morbid. Holding you in the light, Larry PS (If i was single...) "Aye, young lady... it was in Shanghai..., I rolled off me frieghter, an was set upon by..." |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 28 Feb 02 - 07:50 AM Kendall, Sorry to hear you are no better. Glad to hear you're no worse for the wear. Your "Doc" should have talked to you. He did show some wisdom in knowing what he didn't know. In medicine its never good to be the "first one" for any procedure. And to Alice, who recommends "keep your stick on the ice", is that anything like putting your tongue on flag pole? My advice is to stay off the ice completely. Roger in Baltimore |

Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: Morticia Date: 28 Feb 02 - 04:22 AM Oh,I'm just as dissapointed as you must be,my friend, but you are seldom far from my thoughts or a whole bunch of others by the look of these threads. Thanks for looking after him, Sins, he's very special. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: Sandy Paton Date: 28 Feb 02 - 01:08 AM Take a good look at Katlaughing's clickie to the Florida Mayo, Kendall. Maybe you should head south this winter after all, if only to let them take a look at the problem as it has been diagnosed by your doctor up there. Might be a good time to look for a place in the sun, at least for a short while. Your old Uncle Sandy |

Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: katlaughing Date: 27 Feb 02 - 11:57 PM This page will take you to info about an ENT specialist whom the Mayo added to their Fairmount, Minnesota clinic, last year, with a contact person and phone number at the bottom of the page. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: Big Red Date: 27 Feb 02 - 11:53 PM Kendall--Sorry that the problem was not completely resolved. However a good doctor is one who knows his limitations. Yours did. The good news is that hope for a possible cure is still possible. Plus, you'll be getting a lot more prayers. Peace.---Big Red |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: katlaughing Date: 27 Feb 02 - 11:50 PM Kendall, maybe time to go to Florida, again. The Mayo in Jacksonville specialises in ENT: click here. Too bad it's not the one in AZ...you could come out and work on liberalising DougR!*bg* I hope you are not in too much pain from what he did do and that this thing gets settled quickly and for the best. luvyakat & Rog |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: catspaw49 Date: 27 Feb 02 - 11:29 PM Geeziz Kendall, I'm sorry it wasn't resolved but then again at least this guy had the sense to stop before he really whupped up. Hoepfully he can comminicate what he saw and why he stopped to someone who does handle these things. And yeah....Now we know why Sins moved to Maine. I'm glad like others are that she is there for you.....Thanks Sins. You'll always be in my thoughts til this is resolved. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: Rick Fielding Date: 27 Feb 02 - 11:28 PM Bugger! But only for the time being, guy. T'will work out, you'll see. We got you in our sights. Love Rick and heather |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: Steve in Idaho Date: 27 Feb 02 - 11:18 PM My heart is with you Brother - Take it a step at a time. I was a Platoon Sergeant for a Mechanized Infantry Unit in the late 70's. I used to get so pissed at the people who were supposed to know what was going on. My men would be ragged assed tired and we still wouldn't have accomplished what we needed to because someone screwed up. I had this tall gangly Rifleman - had an Adam's Apple like the cartoon character from Sleepy Hollow - Ichabod Crane? He'd just diddy bop up and say, "This too shall pass Sgt. Neff - This too shall pass." And he was right. We'd buckle for our dust and get the job done. This too shall pass - Love and Prayers from the S-Bar-J Steve and Janet Neff |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: kendall Date: 27 Feb 02 - 10:50 PM Mayo Clinic doesn't have a specialist in E.N.T. at their Rochester Mn. site. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: Big Mick Date: 27 Feb 02 - 10:25 PM So we just keep the prayers going, and you find the right Dr. Art is right about Mayo, my friend. It just doesn't get better. And besides, then you are in the Midwest and can just hop a flight to Grand Rapids and stay with us for a bit. We take a trip to see Art and do a little pickin' with him. We run to Elderly Instruments and you go bankrupt. Shit, It don't git no better'n that. You are constantly in my thoughts and prayers on this. You will get there yet, Captain. All the best, Mick |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: Stilly River Sage Date: 27 Feb 02 - 10:22 PM One thing to consider--find out who did Julie Andrew's throat, and DON'T go there. Some folks who specialize in throats aren't as good as others, apparently. I wouldn't necessarily fault the first fellow for finding things were worse than he thought and stopping at the point he did. Do you think the "half job" will help at all, once you heal from it? SRS |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 27 Feb 02 - 10:15 PM Thanks so much for posting the results, Kendall. Like everyone else, I'm just sorry that everything wasn't resolved. Art and others are right. No matter how depressing it is, there must be another specialist out there who will say, "Oh, Thaaat! No Big deal!" You've been very much on our minds and hearts today. We'll keep you in prayer and hope that you can post a Good News, Better News Report, soon. Jerry |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: DougR Date: 27 Feb 02 - 10:09 PM A troubling question is why did the guy operate at all if it was worse than he had thought it was, and something he culdn't handle? Mark, perhaps as a physician (An Aloha one admittedly) you can answer that. I can certainly see why you are pissed, Kendall. DougR |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: gnu Date: 27 Feb 02 - 10:06 PM Good luck eh Bud. As Red says, "I'm pullin for ya. We're all in this together." g |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: Bobert Date: 27 Feb 02 - 10:01 PM Kendall, I know what you are going thru. I haven't been able to sing for the last 10 days due to some yet undiagnosed pain in my salivary gland that doesn't want to leave. The next step... the specialist. All the things that one can think of come to mind. I buried my wife, Judy, who died of cancer 4 yeras ago, so that weighs on my mind. I know how tough it is, but we just gotta take a deep breath, thank the Lord for what we do have and have faith that He will get us thru this one. When I look back at all the stuff He has pulled me thru I can't help but think there's a few more rabbits up His sleeve. You will be in my prayers tonight and in the future. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: Art Thieme Date: 27 Feb 02 - 09:49 PM Kendall, No jokes from me today. Try ANOTHER specialist---and then another one if necessary. Just a few words of advice: I was never sorry I went to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. They do seem to find the answers. Once in a while those are even what we (I) want to hear. Art |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: Mark Cohen Date: 27 Feb 02 - 09:39 PM Glad you got through the procedure with no further damage, Kendall, but I'm sure you're not happy with the way things are. Does this mean you'll be taking that trip to Boston after all? Lots of aloha still coming your way. Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: Brían Date: 27 Feb 02 - 09:36 PM Thanks for the update, Kendall. We have all been thinking about you. I went through oral surgery this past summer, and I woke up wondering why I had just paid someone so much to do something to me that I otherwise would of had them arrested for! Keep us posted. Brían |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: Sandy Paton Date: 27 Feb 02 - 09:28 PM Yeah, what's next, old buddy? Glad you've got Sinsull there to aim your car for you and report on the doctor's report. Does he do a half-assed surgery job for half the price? I remember being thoroughly pissed when the first drainage-canal job they did on my right eye didn't take and they had to do it all over again, and then they had the gall to charge me full price for both procedures! Whistle if you need something from here. Sandy |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: Alice Date: 27 Feb 02 - 09:16 PM Kendall, hang in there. (My best Red Green imitation, "keep your stick on the ice".) Let us know how you are doing. Alice |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: Nancy King Date: 27 Feb 02 - 09:11 PM Well Jeez, Kendall -- sorry it wasn't the news we all wanted. I trust you'll hang in there and find the next level Special Specialist who can really do the job! Hugs and good thoughts, Nancy |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: wysiwyg Date: 27 Feb 02 - 08:49 PM Dang! So what's next? ~S~ |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: kendall Date: 27 Feb 02 - 08:26 PM Jeri, sometimes it's scary how much we think alike! You are right on the money. This guy IS a specialist. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: Jeri Date: 27 Feb 02 - 08:20 PM He probably didn't want to talk to Kendall because he'd most likely need a doctor afterwards. Probably a coroner. I'm glad he realised he might not have the skills needed and stopped before he did irreversable damage. He should have had those skills before he ever agreed to do the surgery, though. Big smooshy hug, Jeri |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: katlaughing Date: 27 Feb 02 - 08:16 PM What a friend we have in Sinsull:-) Ah, geez, Kendall, I am sorry to hear this, too, but at least the guy was wise enough to stop and advise. I hope you get to see the specialist very soon and get this sorted out, once and for all. Lots of love, light, and thanksgivings for your healing coming your way. luvyakat |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: Ebbie Date: 27 Feb 02 - 08:13 PM Oh, Kendall, I'm so sorry. I hope the next doctor finds that it is a LOT better situation than that. (Keep in mind that the reason he didn't talk with you afterward is that he doesn't want you talking yet.) (((((((((HUGS)))))))))) Ebbie |
Subject: RE: Kendall's good news, bad news From: DougR Date: 27 Feb 02 - 08:11 PM I'm sorry to hear that Kendall. I assume you will be seeing another specialist. Hang in there. DougR |
Subject: Kendall's good news, bad news From: kendall Date: 27 Feb 02 - 08:06 PM Well folks, the worst is yet to come. The good news, I woke up from the anesthesia. The bad news, it is much worse than he thought, and I need a specialist who works with people who speak/sing. He was afraid of damage to my voice, so, he did half a job. I now have a very sore throat, sore lips and the same G D problem. I heard this from Sinsull, who drove me home. He didn't even talk to me after the operation, but, he will! |
