Origin of Marching Through Georgia tune?

Subject: Origin of Marching Through Georgia tune?

I've been learning this tune recently on banjo, and want to know if it was a previously known tune that was adapted for "Marching Through Georgia" or was it composed specifically for that song? The reason I want to know, is that the tune was also used for a Mormon folksong "All are talking of Utah" which refers to incidents (or at least a general climate of negative publicity) that would have taken place around 1857--several years before Sherman's march to the sea. Of course the Mormon song could have been composed years after the fact. Anyone know?

Marching Through Georgia was written by Henry C. Work, a well known composer of American popular music. It was first published in 1865, the year following General Sherman's march. For the Library of Congress site which pictures the original sheet music, CLICK HERE!

John Davis wrote "All Are Talking of Utah" and it first appeared in 1868 in "The Bee Hive Songster, published in Salt Lake City. Several othr Mormon songs use the same tune. Source: Mormon Songs from The Rocky Mountains, Ed. T. H. Cheney.
There are threads on Marching Through Georgia and its composer. I will check in a few minutes, but you should have no problem finding the info. here.
