Would you guys help me with this. Bobby Goldsboro made a hit with this back in the sixties. I would like to sing it to my granddaughter, (lyrics changed to reflect little girl). Jeep

Here's how I would play it:

WATCHING SCOTTY GROW

---D---------------------------------------D7---------
There he sits with a pen and a yellow pad,

------------Gmaj7------------Em----A----------D--
What a handsome lad, --------that's my boy.

---D-----------------D7--------------
BRLFQ spells mom and dad,

----------Gmaj7------------Em----A----------D--
But that ain't too bad, ---------that's my boy.

--G-----------------------A-------------F#m---------Bm
You can have your TV and you nightclubs,

--Em---------------------------A-------------------D---
And you can have your drive in picture show,

-----G----------------------A---------------------------D---------------G----
I'll stay here with my little man near, we'll listen to the radio,

--Em-------------------------A------------------D---
Biding my time and Watching Scotty grow.

Making a castle out of building blocks,
And a cardboard box, That's my boy,
Mickey Mouse says it's thirteen o'clock,
Well that's quite a shock! That's my boy.
In four short years I've gone from rags to riches,
And what I did before that I don't know,
So let it rain on my windowpane, I got my own rainbow,
And we're sitting here shining watching Scotty grow.

Riding on daddy's shoudlers off to bed,
Old sleepy head, that's my boy,
Got to have a drink of water and a story read,
A teddy bear named Fred, that's my boy.
What's that you say momma come on and keep you feet warm,
Well save me a place I'll be there in a minute or so,
I'll think I'll stay right here and say a little prayer before I go,
Me and God watching Scotty grow.
Me and God watching Scotty grow.

Hmmm... well, the chords were in the proper positions before I hit the "Submit" button... *arrgghh* Maybe I should have used periods instead of hyphens? Or is there some HTML trick to posting a chord on the line above a lyric?

This time I'll just put the chord on the same line, in parentheses, before the lyric for which it's to be played:

(D)There he sits with a pen and a (D7) yellow pad,
What a (Gmaj7) handsome lad, (Em) (A) that's my (D) boy.
(D) BRLFQ spells (D7) mom and dad,
But that (Gmaj7) ain't too bad, (Em) (A) that's my boy.
(G) You can have your (A) TV and your (F#m) nightclubs, (Bm)
(Em) And you can have your (A) drive in picture (D) show,
(G) I'll stay here with my (A) little man near, we'll (D) listen to the radi- (G) -o,
(Em) Biding my time and (A) Watching Scotty (D) grow.

Give her a special thanks for posting that, Jeep man--that song(and everything else BG did) has been featured prominently in our "songs that you can't stand" discussions, and she's put herself on the line by helping you out;-)--

When you have a grandchild, as I have, this song really hits home. Since mine is a girl, I will have to modify a bit.

Many thanks to you SharonA. I hope to return the favor bye and bye. Jim
