guys, i have a problem!

i was watching the Miss World re-runs during the week and i fell in love with Miss Nigeragua's(sorry i couldnt spell it) dress. my prom is coming up soon and i would love to have an exact copy of the dress that she was wearing. trouble is, on the Miss World site, they dont show close ups of the dresses. is there anything i can do, just to get a close up picture so i can get a dressmaker to make the dress for me. your help would be greatly appreciated. thanks,

sorry, cant understand the language but the photo i clicked had her in a dress but that wasnt the dress im on about. the one im on about is ice blue a-line skirt with a blue embroided corset top. thanks a million for your help sorcha

Yo, see the photo of the crown that is cut off at the bottom? Click on it and I think you'll get the bodice....good dressmaker should be able to get the skirt from a verbal description.

The sites above are to Miss Universe 2002 - different contest?

Just to check things out, try SemiFinalists 2001. Was it perhaps one of these?

(The lead-in on this says the top 10, but only 5 or 6 are detailed. I can't get enough of a blowup of the group picture to tell if there's a "Nicaragua" in the group pic.)

Yes, but it says at the bottom that these are not the gowns worn in competiton and there is no photo of Ligia on that page. I am inclined to think that it is the one I mentioned that is sort of cut off--same one John linked to with his Blue Dress clickie.

Right you are, Sorcha, about the fine print at the bottom of that page (I missed the part that said "Estos no son"!). Besides, it doesn't have the embroidered corset top described by iRiShBaBe. But the top of the dress you mention doesn't appear to be embroidered, either, though we see so little of the dress that it's hard to tell.

What we need is someone who's fluent in Spanish to get on the "Foro" (Forum) page of that site and ask if there's a picture of the whole dress anywhere on the internet (or where to obtain a picture if it does not exist on the net). ...or maybe the thing to do is to ask Ligia yourself! On this page of the Miss Universe site, you can send an e-mail message to any "delegate" (contestant) – and Ligia was a 2001 delegate at this pageant, according to the site. Just choose "Miss Nicaragua 2001" from the pop-up menu. The page does say that there's a possibility that the delegate may respond personally to a question, so why not give it a try? Here again, it may be useful to have someone who is fluent in Spanish ask the question (I imagine that someone would translate a message in English, but that might delay the answer, and time is of the essence!). I went onto google with miss nicaragua 2001 and got a list of 20 websites. On about number 7 I got three pictures of the coronation of Miss World University. Though the photo seems yellow and the dress is pretty colorless, blue doesn't photograph well (or sometimes at all( and the yellow is probably just wrong film for the fluorescent lighting. I betcha that's your blue dress. Here's the site - darned if I know how to clicky. And going in from google, it'll translate the spanish for you!

E.T.: Though the upper right-hand corner of the page says "Miss Nicaragua 2001", the photo shows Claudia Alaniz and lists her as Miss Nicaragua 1998. It goes on to say that she was a contestant (and oneof 6 finalists) for Miss World University 2001 in December 2001. I'm assuming that the photos are from her coronation as Miss Nicaragua in 1998; apparently this page is part of a history of past winners of the Miss Nicaragua contest.

Sounds like iRiShBaBe (any relation to JeZeBeL?) is looking for a dress worn by Miss Nicaragua 2001, Ligia Cristina Arguello.

BUT check out THIS blue dress that Claudia is wearing on this page (scroll down to pic at bottom right of page – very striking!): go to http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=es&u=http://www.missnicaragua.com/ then click on "Gallery and History" in the menu bar, then scroll down to the "Miss Universo" section and click on the "Universal Miss 1998" link. P.S. – This photo shows that last gown again (at least I think it's the same gown! It looks just as "shiny"!).
