Subject: Don't know much about history.. From: GUEST Date: 04 Mar 02 - 10:53 PM Does anyone know the lyrics or know where to find the lyrics to the song that begins: Don't know much about history, don't much of biology.. Part of it goes what a wonderful world this would be. That may be the name of it. I'm not sure. Thanks for the help. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Don't know much about history.. From: Murray MacLeod Date: 04 Mar 02 - 11:12 PM Congratulations on your first blue clicky Allie. I feel however that the site is incorrect in attributing the writing credits. I am fairly sure that Sam Cooke did not have a hand in writing this song, although he wa the artist who made it famous. Lou Adler, Herb Alpert and somebody else wrote it. My favorite version was by David Bromberg. Murray

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Don't know much about history.. From: ddw Date: 05 Mar 02 - 12:01 AM Guess it's another indication of what a dinosaur I am. I never heard Herman's Hermits do it, but Sam Cooke had a huge hit with it in the late '50s or early '60s. Younguns... Sigh. david |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Don't know much about history.. From: C-flat Date: 05 Mar 02 - 02:07 PM There's a wonderful version of this song recorded by Paul Simon,Art Garfunkel and James Taylor. I believe it's on an Art Garfunkel album. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Don't know much about history.. From: Pseudolus Date: 05 Mar 02 - 03:32 PM Was it Paul Simon? Or was J.D. Souther the third voice in that one? Been a long time since I've heard it. There was another song that J.D. Souther did with James Taylor, although the name escapes me right now. Anyway, inquiring minds need to know, was it Simon or Souther? Frank |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Don't know much about history.. From: C-flat Date: 05 Mar 02 - 04:02 PM I'm pretty sure it's Paul Simon but, like you, it's a long time since I heard it. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Don't know much about history.. From: Les from Hull Date: 05 Mar 02 - 04:44 PM Paul Simon is that voice - it's on Art Garfunkle's 'Watermark' |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Don't know much about history.. From: C-flat Date: 05 Mar 02 - 04:52 PM The song you're thinking of with D.Souther is "Her town too" (1981) Another great song although I must admit to more than a little J.T. bias. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Don't know much about history.. From: GUEST,micca at work Date: 06 Mar 02 - 06:56 AM I must confess my first, and continuing, reaction to this song (and it was the Sam Cooke version when it first came out) was, (speaking as someone who has worked in education for most of my adult life) why would ANYONE want to go out with such a total DUMBASS as this!!!! the Myth that "love" conquers all!!! oh dear...rude awakening on the horizon , I fear |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Don't know much about history.. From: Murray MacLeod Date: 06 Mar 02 - 09:18 AM Yes, Micca, it's at the other end of rhe spectrum from "Raglan Road", isn't it? But I have to confess I still like the song .... Murray |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Don't know much about history.. From: Pseudolus Date: 06 Mar 02 - 09:54 AM Never thought of it that way Micca but you're right!! C-flat, "Her Town Too" is the song I was thinking about and it was driving me nuts so thanks!! And I stand corrected on the Paul Simon thing, it was him. Amazing the knowlege you can gather just hanging around Mudcat! Frank |
