Hello, folks...

I've got a question for any people out there who own a CD copy of The Grateful Dead's "Blues for Allah."

I just picked up a CD copy of this release, and I notice a slight, very brief sound drop-off (on one channel) about three different times throughout the recording (I listened to it in headphones, so it was noticeable). It also seemed that the sound got a bit shakey towards the end (on "Sage & Spirit").

The CD appears to be in good condition. Anyone by any chance notice this on their copy?

Thanks...

Peter - Strange - I have that CD in my car today. I haven't noticed the problems you mentioned. I'll listen for it on the way home tonight and see if I can hear it. What other songs did you hear this on?

Wesley S - Deadhead { just not a fanatic about it }

Don't remember which songs. The lapses were very brief, just a moment when a channel seems to drop out. It happens about 3 times.

On "Sage & Spirit," I could swear I detected a bit of a slight warble in the sound, but I'll have to give it another listen.

As I mentioned, I had the headphones on, so it was noticeable. I know the master tapes for these records are almost 30 years old, so it wouldn't surprise me if there were a few glitches.

Could a defective CD have such a problem? Doesn't seem likely, but .....

Peter - I know that a lot of people used to listen to the Dead in an "altered state" - could that be the problem??

Peter - Nothing noticable on my CD but then again I bought it years ago. If yours is new and from a new batch I'd take it back to where you bought it and ask to listen to another copy. If it's the same I'd try buying it somewhere else if they will let you return it. But a lot of places that sell CD's will only let you exchange it for the same CD. Perhaps they will let you trade it for something else from their stock. Good luck.
