Subject: Zippy song of early America From: erwanda55 Date: 08 Mar 02 - 12:45 AM We do a show every year of early American life: sea shanties, revolutionary war songs, shaker tunes. We need a zippy (sorry for the lame way of describing it) tune that kids would enjoy.Any ideas? Thanks |

Subject: RE: Zippy song of early America From: GUEST Date: 08 Mar 02 - 01:35 AM Ever heard of one called Yankee Doodle? In a play of 1787 (by Royal Tyler) one of the characters said he only knew 120 verses of Yankee Doodle, but his Granam knew all of them. The only copy of the play still extant is the one that George Washington bought (by subscription) after seeing a performance in Baltimore in 1788. |

It has a bouncy tune, and lyrics that are poignantly funny in an sad-but-true Irish sort of way. That's only one reason to get this fabulous CD from Folk-Legacy!! Dani |
Subject: RE: Zippy song of early America From: Lucius Date: 08 Mar 02 - 07:22 PM The Derby Ram has a great chorus and was (allegedly) G. Washington's favorite. Make sure that you get the "clean" Version. I can post it if you need words. Lucius |
