Hello RG, and all the others who have done so much work to put together this great Data Base

I'm in the process of trying to comprehend this massive amount of data and I'd first like to say THANK YOU. Secondly I'd like to keep this thread open to contribute some stuff for your existing songs to make your job easier if I may.

Margot Evans (Let The Bullgine Run) Is also recorded by Charles O'Hegarty, Peter Marston, and David Jones (aka: The Starboard List) on a really good album called "Cruising Round Yarmouth". It's listed on the CD as BULL GINE RUN with the notes:

"Ships engaged in the cotton trade between Liverpool & the southern gulf ports of the US served with checkerboard crews. This mingling of song idioms of black and white sailors has given us some of our finest shanties. A steam engine became 'bullgine' and a 'low backed car, a form of horse drawn carriage, was probably derived from an Irish song, Shule Agra.

The Mingulay Boat song Notes from "Blow Ye Winds In The Morning, Traditional sea songs dances and Chanteys" -- A Revels Celebration fo the Sea- (inc. work by Peter Marston and David Jones) "Mingulay is the southern-most of the outer islands of the Hebrides, in the northern Atlantic. Between it and the west coast of Scotland lie the island of Skye and a treacherous channel known as the Minch.

---I always wondered what the hell a 'Minch' was until I read that note. Let me know if this is helpful or interesting. This is a great project I'd love to contribute.

If you came here in 2002 or later looking for something to do with a Gail Gardner song, "Hassayampa Hank", go back <<!
