I had David and Dave at my place for a house concert last June. What a perfect night that was!

I encourage people to buy BOTH of his CD's. They are BOTH totally excellent.

Good to see David Francey has surfaced on the forum again. His tremendous third album was recently released and his bookings are very much on the rise. For New Hampshire mudcatters, he and Dave Clarke will be in Wolfeboro and Conway later this year.

For those who can hear it, (ie Canadians, Border US or Internet listeners), check out tomorrow on CBC's Radio Program, Sounds Like Canada. It airs between 10:30AM local timezone to ~11:45AM local timezone. They have a segment called All for a Song, which will feature David Francey.

If you check out CBC's main web-site http://www.cbc.ca. From there you should be able to locate the how to listen to CBC radio links you need for a specific time zone.

For instance, for Atlantic time (which is GMT-4 hours) http://radio.cbc.ca/cbchalifax.ram

Dave Clarke's main gig is with the Montreal folk/bluegrass/country band Steel Rail. You can read more about him, and them, at the Steel Rail website.

Thirty years ago, Dave and I were students together at Dawson College in Montreal. I was in charge of the folk concert series and he was one of the best guitar players at the college.

Check his performance dates out at davidfrancey.com - he's playing four veues in NH/Maine in April. Just got tickets for his Tamworth concert, actually. Saw him in Calgary last July and raved about him on this very site. Also worthy of mention is his guitar accompaniest Dave Clark - better than Dick Gaughan.

Well he'll be back for a second concert with the Orillia Folk Society on May 31, so if anybody is anywhere nearby come on out. On second thought call ahead as tickets may go fast for this one.

I completely agree. David Francey is great. We were visiting friends in Guelph, who dragged us out to see him perform and we were amazed. Nice guy, too.

David Francey was born in Scotland and moved to Canada, with his family, as a young boy. He now lives in Ayer's Cliff, about an hour or so east of Montreal, so I like to think of him as one of the locals that we're proud of here.

David is a carpenter by trade and turned to songwriting and performing only in the past few years. Having burst onto the scene in middle age (David and I are the same age and I've been around for 30+ years), his songs have a much greater depth and maturity than most songwriters at the beginning of their careers. They are very, very good and are well-grounded in traditional styles.

Listen to "Torn Screen Door" from the album of the same name; it's a great acappela song. My wife-Sue of the BigVoice-and I do this one at open stages.

Rich and George
Thanks for the quick response. I've just been listening to Redwing Blackbird. On the show they also played "Flowers of Saskatchewan" it sounded a powerfull song and I've just read all the lyrics at the site you pointed me to Rich. Tomorrow I'm going to sit down and learn it!
Thanks again
KJ

So far all I have found is at The Pipeline which mentioned a Dave Francey, at the Calgaary Folk Festival. It said that he's a Scot now living in Canada.

David Francey.
Originally from Scotland, now living in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. A fine songwriter, a wonderful entertainer, modest and in performance somewhat shy about his great talents. I think he's gonna make a big mark on the Canadian Folk music scene. I've seen him in several performances last year at the Ottawa Folk Festival, and I have both his recordings.

At this site, there's an audio file of Paper Boy, and of my favorite of his: "Red-Winged Blackbird"
He'll come to be considered an equal of Gordon Lightfoot and Stan Rogers.

You'll enjoy his albums, guaranteed :) And I'm going to see him at a house concert next week!

I was just playing back a recording I made of Saturdays Radio Scotland Folk Prog(on the net). They played a couple of songs by a guy who's name sounded like David Franci. They said he was Canadian but he had a strong Scot's Accent.
One of the songs was Paper Boy.
Can anyone tell me more about this singer and where I can get a CD. I think he has his own label.

Thanks in Advance
KJ
