Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Sweet Harmony Brown From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 12 Mar 02 - 05:01 PM Of course! Unfortunately, I don't have my record any more. It was recorded by the Four Lads... a group that squandered an great potential. They were the back-up singers on Johnny Ray's Cry and The Little White Cloud That Cried on the Okeh label. Okeh was a "race record" label and it says a lot about both Johnn Ray and the Four Lads early in their careet that they were accepted as whites on a "race record" label. Probably because they owed so much to black music. While they were still on the Okeh label, they did a great recording of an old black gospel song, The Mockingbird (which they re-recorded on Columbia after they became popular and took all the Spirit out of it.) Early in their time on Columbia they did an extended play album of gospel with Frankie Lane and did a fine recording of Didn't It Rain! Sweet Harmony Brown has not been re-issued on CD, I'm pretty sure. Maybe another Mudcatter may have the old record kicking around.
Got more than you asked for, I know... Jerry |
