HARMONY BROWN
Four Lads

I can remember one evening sublime
I took out a girl for the very first time
I bought her a soda it cost me a dime
And I shared it with Harmony Brown

Sweet Harmony Brown
Sweetest Harmony Brown
Hair golden yellow
For some lucky fellow
Who'll marry sweet Harmony Brown

Now I have bought lobster for blonde and brunette
I've paid for champagne though it's left me in debt
But why is that memory lingering yet
Of a soda with Harmony Brown

Sweet Harmony Brown
Sweetest Harmony Brown
Hair golden yellow
For some lucky fellow
Who'll marry sweet Harmony Brown

When I returned to the place that we met
I saw a girl I could never forget
I told her I loved her and asked could I get
One more soda with Harmony Brown

Sweet Harmony Brown
Sweetest Harmony Brown
Hair golden yellow
And I am the fellow
Who married sweet Harmony Brown

##############################

That came from lyric world, I think

We had that record. The end was

...hair golden yellow,
and I am the fellow
who'll marry sweet Harmony Brown.

So it ends happily. (Sorry, I can only remember the chorus.)

I have both the record and the sheet music to Harmony Brown. I will be glad to answer any questions about either.

HARMONY BROWN was written by Terry Gilkyson and recorded by The Four Lads in 1952. It's on their album "The Singles Collection," Collectables CD #7665, 2005. From a sound sample:

...and I shared it with Harmony Brown.

Ah, sweet Harmony Brown, sweetest Harmony Brown,
Hair golden yellow for some lucky fellow
Who marries sweet Harmony Brown.

But why is that memory lingering yet
Of a soda with Harmony Brown

Useless information

My sister-in-law lives two houses away from Bernie Toorish's parent's home and believe it not they do not have a copy of Sweet Harmony Brown

For the two other people on earth who remember the song Sweet Harmony Brown and have been looking for it, Collector's Choice Music at www.ccmusic.com will be releasing a Four Lads 28 singles collection March 15, and the song is on there. (The actual title is Harmony Brown.)

Rush right out and buy it. I am. That means they'll sell at least three copies.

I'm posting this so that TCrier will spot it..

Of course! Unfortunately, I don't have my record any more. It was recorded by the Four Lads... a group that squandered an great potential. They were the back-up singers on Johnny Ray's Cry and The Little White Cloud That Cried on the Okeh label. Okeh was a "race record" label and it says a lot about both Johnn Ray and the Four Lads early in their careet that they were accepted as whites on a "race record" label. Probably because they owed so much to black music. While they were still on the Okeh label, they did a great recording of an old black gospel song, The Mockingbird (which they re-recorded on Columbia after they became popular and took all the Spirit out of it.) Early in their time on Columbia they did an extended play album of gospel with Frankie Lane and did a fine recording of Didn't It Rain! Sweet Harmony Brown has not been re-issued on CD, I'm pretty sure. Maybe another Mudcatter may have the old record kicking around.

Got more than you asked for, I know...

Jerry
