For anyone that may be vaguely interested the Abram Pace-egg play will be performed without prejudice, talent or fear of getting any lines right during the week commencing Mon 25 March 2002 in the following areas -

Mon. Mar 25 - Swinton
Tue. Mar 26 - In our minds only...
Wed. Mar 27 - Westhaughton
Thu. Mar 28 - Somewhere else near Wigan.

(NB - The later two were decided after at least 6 pints of Robinsons and could be in the wrong order, the wrong place or a total figment of my imagination. But they are nearly right and we are definitely going SOMEWHERE those nights;-))

In any case the play will culminate in the final and flawless performances around the fine city of Lancaster in the County Paletine on Good Friday, 29 Mar 2002 during the Lancaster Maritime Festival.

You may also see the play on Saturday the 30th but as it will be then performed by the Lancster Pace Egg Players I cannot vouch for it's quality....

If anyone want futher (and perhaps less vague) details please feel free to PM me.

Cheers

Dave the Gnome.

So you can drink (and presumably enjoy, or is it masochism?) Robinson's, DtG, and still rate Carlsberg Special Brew highly? Weird!

I've had worse things said BE;-) And to add to the confusion more the best beer I tried recently was Mansfield Mild - about 3% ABV, black as the earl o'hells waistcoat and a liquorice aftertaste that beat Bassets!

Cheers and don't be so fussy about your drinks - remember there is no such thing as bad beer - only bad landlords:-)

Cheers

Howard will be with us BigJ but he don't play the concert screamer in this production! He plays Beelzebub - and you should see the size of his club!!! I will pass your regards on anyway. Will he know the name BigJ?

Kat -

Room, room brave gallants and give us time to sport
For in this room we wish to resort
Resort and repeat our merry rhymes
For remember good sirs, This is Pace Egging time...

Us actors are the best of men that e'er trod English ground
We never are faint hearted are voices are full sound...
etc etc etc

Synopsis mode on...

St George boasts a bit
Slasher takes him on, gets killed
Miser whiges about it
Doctor resurrects Slasher
St George brags a bit more
Black Prince of Paledine takes him on, gets killed
King of Egypt whinges a bit. Calls on Hector
Hector brags a bit
St George takes him on, mortally wounds Hector
Hector walks off into the sunset
Miser whinges a bit more, arranges to meet St George later
Beelzebub comes in and cadges a bit of money
Little Devil Doubt scares the pants of all the kids and cadges some more
All wander off singing...

We're two or three jolly boys all in one mind
We have come a pace agging and I hope you'll prove kins...
etc etc etc

Make any more sense???

No - Try a google search then and go do your own play...;-)

Cheers

Pace is a corruption of french Paques = Easter (Paschal lamb, etc).

Eggs counted as meat, so souldn't be eaten in Lent. But the stupid hens didn't know that and kept on laying. People couldn't afford to waste food, so they hard-boiled them to keep till after Easter. But there's only so many eggs you can eat at once, so they found some fun things to do with them while celebrating the end of 40 days abstinence. (Well, that's my theory).

DTG, we'll be coming up to Lancaster on the Friday, e.t.a. uncertain. What time's your last performance?

Snuffy, Usualy about 3-ish I think - I haven't seen the program yet! I thought it was a corruption of Pasche which I thought was Latin? Or is that a corruption of something else?

Confused as normal...

Yes, both pace and paques are descended from the original Latin pasch- (which may in itself be descended from greek or hebrew for all I know!)

Dave,

Standish & Westhoughton?

(We live in Aspull.)

If you're round this neck of the woods I bet you remember Ted Edwards.....

Let us know where this unnatural act is going to take place and we'll come and buy you a pint.

The full list is at home Ian - I'll post it tomorrow. And yes - we still see Ted quite regularly. He used to come to Swinton every few weeks and regularly goes to other folk and live music nights around Eccles.

Cheers

Incidentally, the Lancaster Pace Eggers will be performing on Easter Saturday at 12.30 pm and 3pm at the same venue.

"A room, a room, a gallant room and give us room to reign ...!" [So says Father Christmas from the Snowshill Mummers play which we (the Shakespeare Mummers, including Snuffy) will perform on St George's Day and St Barnabas Day]
