Well i have just bought my first guitar, it is a Washburn-D10.It is second hand but in very good condition (it looks like new) I saw it avertised in the local paper, i went to see it and it looked good so I bought it straight away, I was lucky because the man was only selling it because he is moving to Saudi Arabia, he only bought it a few weeks ago but he just got offered a new job, I got the guitar, a gig bag and an electric tuner (Korg) for 80 pounds.It looks really nice but now i just have to learn how to play it!

There's no "better" or "best" when you reach for the top-end instruments, only opinions! Lowden,Santa cruz,Collings,Martin,Taylor,etc.etc. I would have one of each if I could!

I've played and heard many lowdens, and I don't think they're worth their ridiculous prices. I have heard people make great music on some of them. Santa Cruz, Beneteau, and some Martins are better.

Well, I hate to mention it, but there are several Lowden players around here and quite a few posts talking about Lowdens so if BOB would enter the word Lowden in the supersearch he could do just that Michael!

Bob, I'm certainly not upset and when I backlink info or suggest that folks read what's been said before, it's not to stop a current thread because many new people and old folks alike will have something they might want to add. But I do it because many of our folks like myself have said a ton in the past and many of us will not add on anymore at this point in time. Sometimes we do, like Midchuck, but sometimes we don't.

So why not take from the old as well as the new and get as much info as possible? Rick, Mooh, JP, Fortunato, mooman, and a couple of dozen others may not always contribute to a new thread like this one because they feel they've said it before....and for that reason I backlink info or suggest that the poster read some past threads. The info these people have put in in the past is still valuable and repeating it on a new thread generally isn't done. Midchusk always has good info, but he doesn't alwasy contribute to every guitar thread unless he has something new to add.

And mooman......I knelt at the foot of The Little Pissant and he whizzed all over me.........Lakewood is certainly another fine choice and probably have good availability in England where John is.

I'm totally convinced that the Martin 000-15S is the best instrument, dollar for dollar, now on the market.

But I'll probably have a new opinion in a few weeks.

'Spaw forgot to mention Lakewood also, for which he will be severely reprimanded! They do a good cheap model (D-1 and M-1) as well as their more expensive models.

Check out LaDue Guitars, a small builder in Central NY. His own design, kinda peculiar looking at first, but a great sound. And he uses local hardwoods wherever possible. Can't locate his website right now...

Used! In general, they sound better and play better but it sounds like you may not be real experienced so find someone who has played for a while to help you. And don't think that all Martins are better than all Epiphones just 'cause it says C.F. Martin on it. Pawn shops, funky guitar shops (non mall) that have used guitars in the funky area of your closest city, and personal ads are good sources. If this is your first, I'd shy away from ebay. You can probably find a copy of Vintage Guitar someplace and it is good for comparision purposes. Plus you might find a shop, or better yet a show, close to you... Good luck

Enter guitar in the filter box and set the refresh for say 3 years and see what you get. Some don't have guitar in the thread title but if you go through some of the many you find there, you'll find links to most of the others.

Good brands with inexpensive models: Martin, Larrivee, Guild, Yamaha, Seagull, Takemine(Jasmine), Taylor, Alvarez, Epiphone...Also check out Blue Ridge Guitars...lotsa' bang for the buck, really excellent.
