Sorry if this is off-topic, but I thought that here I'd find people who record music and speak English, not the Japanese in which Sony apparently writes its manuals.

According to my MZ-R700's manual, to wipe the blank Track 1 I've managed to record on a disc, I should press ENTER (EDIT) till the track is selected, then press MENU (flip the lever towards ---> or <---), then when EDIT flashes repeatedly, press ENTER (ENTER) again.

At this stage you're supposed to flip the lever (what lever? I don't see any lever) towards ---> or <--- until "Erase" flashes in the display, then press ENTER.

Now, this is all Geek to me, but I worked out most of it by guessing which buttons to press. But "ERASE" doesn't appear, just "ALL ERASE", which I guess (but who knows) may mean "erase all tracks".

Does anyone know how to actually erase one track only?

Sorry I can't help with that JTT - someone will. But I trust you won't mind me asking here (it will bring your thread back to the top) if anyone knows where in the UK) I can get the tiny screws used in minidisc chassis assembly. Not Maplins - I've tried there.

I have a MZ-R700. Are you talking about the Remote? I haven't figured how to use that to its full extent.

On the unit, while it is playing the specific track you want to delete

1 - I press [Enter] until, the word Edit shows up.
2 - Then press [Enter]. It should show Name(if you want to enter a name for the track)
3 - Then press the [>> (Fast Forward)] until Erase shows up.
4 - Then Press [Enter], where it will ask if it is OK to erase.
5 - If it is, press [Enter].

If at any time you decide NOT to proceed, press the [Stop].

Some times it happens that it says "all erase" don't do it.what you sometimes can do is move that track to the end and attempt to erase it from there.

I've got a mz-G750 so I suppose it will be similar.

When you want to erase a particular track .. start playing it ..then press 'enter' it should then display "edit".. press 'enter' ..it then displays "name" press >> "move" press >> "Erase" is then displayed at this point press 'enter' and the track should be erased.

Oh yes, remember not to have the disc protected !!

all the very best ritchie.

Nope. It doesn't offer me Erase, just All Erase, and yes, that erases the whole bleeding disc.

How do you move a track?

I have an older model (MZ-R55), but they may have used the same combination of buttons.

Erasing a track:
1. While playing the track, press EDIT/ENTER
2. Press |<< or >>| repeatedly until "Erase" flashes in the display screen.
3. Press EDIT/ENTER again. "Erase OK?" and push "ENTER"

JTT, to remove ONE track you have to be playing that track. Re-read my earlier posting.

Maybe I should amend,

1 - Play the track you need to delete

2 - Press [Enter] until, the word Edit shows up.

3 - Then press [Enter]. It should show Name(if you want to enter a name for the track)

4 - Then press the [>> (Fast Forward)] until Erase shows up.

5 - Then Press [Enter], where it will ask if it is OK to erase.

6 - If it is, press [Enter].

If at any time you decide NOT to proceed, press the [Stop].

Fionn, have you tried to get these special screws from a visit to an industrial hardware supplier? There are such suppliers in every major city, I would think...
In the phone book, possibly under screws, fasteners, machine screws, fasteners industrial...

This from a Canadian phone book, so you may have different terminology...

Doh! *Playing* the track! Thanks!

Have you tried asking Sony or whoever made your minidisc where to get the screws, Fionn?

And I wonder (if that doesn't work) if optical screws might do the trick?

And "Enter" is the little dog-tag on the left side, pressed in (not up or dpwn).

If you do it while NOT playing a track you get "All Erase".

A

Thanks Rich. I've tried the ones near me, but the towns near me are not big enough to have faster suppliers/factors that are big enough *G*. I'll search farther afield when I get a chance.
