Subject: Peg & InOBU Mudcat fundraiser... From: InOBU Date: 17 Mar 02 - 10:08 PM Well here is the challenge... In the commitment and success in nyc folk post, we had an existential question... the answer of which led to the following challenge... a sort of bidding war for the benifit of Mudcat. SO, here are the rules... I begin with the story of the first of the band members leaving, and we see who will bid more (contributions to mudcat...) to eather NOT tell the next history of exband memembers leaving or TO tell the story, ie: A bids $X to tell us how the next of the twenty some folks left, or B bids $Y NO to tell us the next one! Story #1... a freebee... Two band members, friends, one from Dublin, one Irish American. I present the song Yvette's Song (about Indian forced assimilation in Canada... The reaction from the Dub is, "I don't feel comfortable singing about other people's liberation struggles" (or her own for that matter)... SO, I said, "Hokay, sleep on it and we will discuss it tommorow..." The next day, next rehersal, I trot out Teresa's Song, one I wrote about the murder of a young Roma (Gypsy) mother of four in the Czech Republic, by a skin head mob, who threw her off a bridge. Our Dublin friend gives her American Irish friend a knowing look. Her friend says, "I don't feel comfortable playing that song unless I knew the other side of the story..." Our flute player puts down his flute and says, "Other side of the story!? What, like the bitch had it coming?" There ends the story of the first two defections from the band... SO what is the next one worth to ya's... or NOT! Cheers Larry |
