Subject: OPRY ON A & E TONITE From: Dharmabum Date: 19 Mar 02 - 11:49 AM Tonight at 9 pm est,on the A & E channel. There will be a 2 hr. documentry on the 75th anniversary of the Grand Old Opry. The A & E website didn't provide a whole lot of info. I hope they show some film footage of Hank. DB. |
Subject: RE: OPRY ON A & E TONITE From: wysiwyg Date: 19 Mar 02 - 11:53 AM See me for any obscure gospel items. I may have them-- sound clips and lyrics. Or you hear some you have and I want! ~S~ |
Subject: RE: OPRY ON A & E TONITE From: RichM Date: 19 Mar 02 - 05:54 PM Whew! For a moment I misread the thread name: OPRAH ON A&E TONITE |
Subject: RE: OPRY ON A & E TONITE From: catspaw49 Date: 19 Mar 02 - 07:24 PM Oh I dunno' Rich, she'll probably be on there to explain the "Oprah Approach" to music in general and present us with her guru on the subject who will be yet another pain in the ass...........Hmmm, I figure she can get Bono from U2. I mean like the guy shows up on everything musical to explain how "X" was the most important influence on him.................... Spaw |
Subject: RE: OPRY ON A & E TONITE From: Dicho (Frank Staplin) Date: 19 Mar 02 - 07:29 PM Well, it will at least be a change from Lawrence Whelk. |
Subject: RE: OPRY ON A & E TONITE From: kendall Date: 19 Mar 02 - 07:31 PM The first time I went to Scotland, I checked into a hotel in Edinburgh, flipped the telly on, and there was OPRAH WINDBAG! Cant get away from her! |
Subject: RE: OPRY ON A & E TONITE From: wysiwyg Date: 19 Mar 02 - 07:43 PM If Doctor Phil butts into the Opry I'm gonna have to go over there and d***-slap that man. And yes, that IS what I mean! ~S~ |
Subject: RE: OPRY ON A & E TONITE From: catspaw49 Date: 19 Mar 02 - 07:52 PM No,no,no.......Oprah will need a music guru and I think I have it right with Bono. Seriously, can you think of a tribute to someone or some genre where the dumb SOB hasn't appeared? The perfect choice for Oprah........Someone who's as big a pain in the ass as she is! Spaw |
Subject: RE: OPRY ON A & E TONITE From: gnu Date: 19 Mar 02 - 08:28 PM But he has mellowed.... recall one of his recent acceptance speeches where he said "keep fucking up the establishment" ? Would that be him, now ? |
Subject: RE: OPRY ON A & E TONITE From: JenEllen Date: 19 Mar 02 - 08:29 PM Is anyone going to videotape this? (fingers crossed) |
Subject: RE: OPRY ON A & E TONITE From: gnu Date: 19 Mar 02 - 08:36 PM What part of the world are you in, Jen ? |
Subject: RE: OPRY ON A & E TONITE From: Dharmabum Date: 19 Mar 02 - 09:29 PM Watching it now, & loving it! But no Oprah! DB. |
Subject: RE: OPRY ON A & E TONITE From: JenEllen Date: 19 Mar 02 - 09:36 PM Well gnu....if you drive out past "BFE", then on past "the sticks", and go up another twenty miles into the mountains...you're at my house! The one place on planet Earth that even FOX can't touch! Too far out for cables, and the satellite guy said that with the amount of wires he'd have to run to the house from putting a dish onto a hill where there IS relay reception? It was a pretty slim deal, even if I wore a tin-foil hat and sacrificed live animals by the light of a Ted Turner moon... |
Subject: RE: OPRY ON A & E TONITE From: irishajo Date: 19 Mar 02 - 11:00 PM Thanks for the heads up, I enjoyed it. Liked the emphasis on honoring tradition while accepting change! Amy |
Subject: RE: OPRY ON A & E TONITE From: Steve Latimer Date: 20 Mar 02 - 12:08 AM 'Spaw, Bono can't come close to Clapton for the number of people who are the "Biggest influnce" on him. Heck, I'm all for a new wing at the NYCFM. Something like the Eric Clapton I Love Everybody Who Has So Much As Whistled A Little Tune Wing. I'll leave you to work with it. I wish I'd seen the Opry show. |
Subject: RE: OPRY ON A & E TONITE From: 53 Date: 20 Mar 02 - 09:22 AM I got to watch part of it, but hopefully they will show it again so I can see the whole thing. |
Subject: RE: OPRY ON A & E TONITE From: Ebbie Date: 20 Mar 02 - 06:01 PM I enjoyed the whole thing- I even started wondering if my insistence on 'real' country was just resistance to change. Because the newer singers they quoted do seem to honor the tradition. Ah, I dunno. I still like the old stuff better. I am housesitting these days so I didn't get to tape it. If they should run it again sometime when I'm home, I will. Ebbie |
