I was felling trees in that area about fourty two years ago with two other fellers and had looked forward all week to having a good Sunday pint or two in Kirkintilloch. That,s when we discovered there are no pubs. I,ve never forgotten that little fact. I also remember that Kirkintilloch rhymes with ferkin pillock, which is what we all felt like as we drove away.

Old thread, I know... but in case anyone's concerned. There *are* now pubs in Kirkintilloch.

Kirkie was "dry" for nearly 50 years from about 1920, but there are now 5 or 6 pubs there.

I work for the Tobar an Dualchais / Kist o Riches project             www.kistoriches.co.uk    The project was set up to digitise, catalogue and make available online thousands of hours of sound recordings from all over Scotland. The recordings come from the School of Scottish Studies, BBC Scotland and the National Trust for Scotland's Canna Collection.

We have quite a lot of recordings of Geordie Hamilton which would be great to include on the website. We need to get in touch with his family for permission before any material can go online.
