A friend just gave me some records. Included was something quite amazing. It's a set of 78's, 3 records, on the STINSON label, of Burl Ives singing: Poor Wayfaring Stranger, Black Is The Color, Foggy, Foggy Dew, Buckeye Jim, Bold Soldier, Sow Took The Measles, Blue Tail Fly, Henry Martin. They appear to be in good shape. On the album cover is a picture of the youngest Burl I've ever seen. Inside is a loose booklet of songs notes and history written by Alan Lomax. How do I find out the value of these records? Thanks, Bob(deckman)Nelson

you can check out ebay, enter Burl Ives, under completed auctions, you should find a list of what they've been going for. I'd give you $10 for them!, sometimes I find them for less. What are they worth to you? as cultural artifacts, as recordings, as resources? Maybe you could donate them to Singout! ReSource Center and take a tax write-off.

Bill's got the right idea, Bob. It's amazing how cheaply you can pick up historic recorded treasures on eBay. I do a bit of collecting of 78s and find I usually end up paying more for shipping than I do for the records. Just another example of the good old American attitude that newest is best and if it's over 25 years old it can't be any good, I guess.

These come up on Ebay frequently. But for a real bargain, visit your local Salvation Army Store. Usually 50c or $1 apiece.

Thanks for all the good ideas. Bill, I did as you suggested and checked out E-Bay. I'm not normally an E-Bay 'kinda guy, so I didn't think of it first. It was interesting: I found several of the identical album sets that ranged from $7 to &25. None of them included the booklet I have written by Lomax. I was also surprised to see what his other albums and books are going for. I've got many items, some autographed, that I never even thought about. Thanks again everyone. CHEERS, Bob(deckman)Nelson
