Subject: RE: BS: Rosalie Farewell From: kytrad (Jean Ritchie) Date: 27 Mar 02 - 04:46 PM Yes, Bill. Sanders Theatre was glowing- I had done many a Christmas Revels there, and it was good to be back. A windy, cold evening, but Rosalie and friends were cozy and warm, with plenty of deli laid out in the green room and all of us visiting, catching up with the years. Not a Rosalie farewell- just a Retirement-From-the-Road. She's in great form and looks slim and fabulous, sings better than ever- she just wants time to write, enjoy her grandchildren, and do the projects she really wants to- the same decision I made some years ago. Not everyone invited could come, but we had Patrick Sky opening the festivities with Uillian pipes (with special honor to Dave van Ronk); I came on then as Rosalie's oldest musical friend excepting Utah Phillips (who was not there)and did my two songs. Following were Peggy Seeger, Christine Lavin, David Bromberg and Louden Wainwright III. They were all SO GREAT... after intermission, Rosalie and band (several friends- Bromberg, Mitch Greenhill, Peter Mudcat Ruth, Rhona Baron, and two other wonderful ladies whom I met but whose names I didn't hear) played a marvellous second set of Rosalie's favorites- the audience's too. After a long standing ovation, there was more serious food, good talk and music in the green room. All were put up at the Charles Hotel. I slept well, having earned my good rest! Much more could be said, but I won't take up any more room. It was a grand party. |

Subject: RE: BS: Rosalie Farewell From: *#1 PEASANT* Date: 27 Mar 02 - 04:51 PM Saw her not long ago in Washington DC at smithsonian concert. She is a true wonder. Saw her with Utah Phillips in knoxville years and years ago before that. So if she is no longer on the road you should make a pilgrimage to see her where she is. Conrad |
