I just found out on Headline News TV station. He was 93.

I loved the man. In the mid-60's, I watched his program every week. I loved the bantering between Uncle Miltie and the heckler in the audience.

Another of the old greats has gone on. Will there be transvestites in heaven?

Mr Sunday Night. During his time slot, crime in major cities dropped to a standstill. He was among the last of the American Vaudeville Dinosaurs, along with Benny and Burns.

I was never personally a great fan of his, but he knew his business and he knew how to get a laugh......often even from folks like me who weren't big fans. That's an artform in itself. Uncle Miltie was regular fare along with Caesar, Kovacs, Phil Silvers, Groucho, George and Gracie, Benny, Spike Jones........I may have missed them in the days of Burlesque and Vaudeville, but their radio and TV stuff was legendary and I am the world's biggest sucker for retrospectives and replays of those early TV days. Milton Berle gave us schtick to remember whether we liked it or not....and for his contributions to comedy and to the TV generation he will always be fondly remembered whether wearing a dress or smoking a stogie...or both!

I love Comedy as much as I love music. To lose Berle an Dudley Moore on the same day is quite a loss.

Everybody, try to be strong during these extremely trying times. To lose two titans of entertainment on the level of Milton Berle and Dudley Moore in the same day is a monumental tragedy.

khandu asks, "Was he not the first to have Elvis on TV?" Elvis was on Berle's show before he was on the Ed Sullivan show, but I don't know whether Elvis had made any other TV appearances before Berle put him on the air.

As a child in the late '50s and '60s, I always found Berle quite scary. Even now, when I look at the video-clip tributes, I still can't get past that "Ew! Slimy!" feeling about him. Oh, well, he certainly entertained a host of (other) people! A great loss to the world of comedy.
