Hi Mudcatters,
I help to produce (as an unpaid volunteer) a folk music programme on BBC local radio in the Midlands Genevieve Tudor's Sunday Folk
The show - in various incarnations - has been broadcast from BBC Radio Shropshire, BBC Radio Stoke and BBC Hereford and Worcester for over 15 years.
We have listeners as far afield as Manchester and Liverpool in the north and to the southern outposts of Bristol and Oxford, but we are frequently asked if the show is available on line.
Well, the day has come! There is a link on the BBC's Shropshire web site that connects you to the station's live output, so come and join us between 8:00 and 10:00 PM British whatever-time-the-clocks-are-set-to-now.
Hope you enjoy the show, and let us know you're out there, email me or Genevieve and let us know what you think.

Allan

Allan, that's fantastic news, because from where I live I only get hearsay about Radio Shropshire. I've been told it's well worth a listen because of the interesting guests Genevieve interviews, and making notes in the 'What's on' spot.

As a warm-up to Allan and Genevieve's programme, you may care to join me from 5:30(BST) HERE: www.manxradio.com/. I've not mentioned it before because we're often full and I don't want to waste your time. Regards

Sorry, bigJ - tried that - my computer doesn't seem to like the link.
Are those your distinguished features we see under the name John Kaneen?
I'll just have to be patient and wait for the Shropshire one.

Just sent Allan an E-mail. Are we on NOW??
Where / how do we access the audio "streaming" from the BBC Website - I was just there and could not find a way to get it.

...and I've just replied to Uncle Jaque. We are on at 20:00 BST, which is GMT + 1 hour. If you look at BBC's Shropshire web site there's a link near the top of the page that will give you the audio. It opens in Windows Media Player on my computer. I have heard of people that have had to download an update from Microsoft to get it to work.
I'm looking forward to tonight - we have a local musician called Stan Zervas in to play live, and we have interviews with Ralph McTell and Joe Broughton - or we will have if I get going and edit them in time!
And harpmaker has sent me his CD Oxytocin, so we'll play a track from that, so we expect everybody in Hull to be listening at least!

Is that the same Stan that played at Priestweston?
Is he going to be at Bishop's Castle?

There is a thread on Radio progs generally. I was about to list the Somerset Sound one but I can't remember which Wed of the month Rod Harrington broadcasts. (guess 1st)

They dedicate an hour to Folk and Roots Music in Adam's Mid Morning programme once a month. And, your right Mr Red, its usually on the first wednesday of the month and the expert is Rod Harrington. I don't know if its on the web. Does that help?

Here we are again, ensconced in a small room at the BBC putting a radio programme together.
We've received loads of new CDs this week, so we'll be giving those an airing, starting with the Eel Grinders.
We have a great band called the Rhythm Thieves coming in to do a live set, and we have an interview with a Bulgarian (well, Anglo-Bulgarian anyway) group called A Spell in Time. They are thrilling the story telling circuit at the moment, and their singer Moni Sheehan has a terrifically powerful voice. I hope we can play another track from harpmaker's CD as well.
Come and join us - it would be awfully lonely in here if you didn't.

By this time on a Sunday, I'm usually getting quite excited looking forward to another show.
It was great having the Rhythm Thieves with us last week, we always enjoy having live music from the middle studio.
I don't think this week's guests will be playing live, but Trefor and Vicki Williams will be coming in to talk to Genevieve, and later Heather Innes and Jacynth Hamill of Caim will be joining us. We've been playing their new CD, Creator of the Tides today, and it's absolutely delightful. "Song, Celtic Prayer & Stories" is what it says on the front.
We'll have some tracks from the new crop of CDs that have arrived in the week, so there will be some Flook and some Baka Beyond - both excellent.
The show is on line from BBC Radio Shropshire between 8:00 and 10:00 PM BST.

Well, we've been enjoying being in touch with the rest of the world, but for the time being BBC Radio Shropshire won't be available on the web.
The Senior Broadcast Journalist here tells us"A change in the rights situation with PPL who represent the record companies means that we can no longer continue to do so."
If things improve I'll let you know, but until then, please accept our apologies - we'll miss you!

Allan, that's a real shame, we realy enjoyed your show. If we are ever in your area, (and we could be as we have a camper van) we will let you know. Until next time, all the best to you & Genivieve. John&Christine.
