Subject: RE: english republicans From: GUEST,Aldus Date: 09 Apr 02 - 08:17 AM Monarchies have one great advantage over republics...they know how to seperate power from Glory...that is very useful to a democracy. |
Subject: RE: english republicans From: Fiolar Date: 09 Apr 02 - 08:11 AM Well Guest, would you include former Irish President Mary Robinson in the list you so kindly gave us. If so you are another sad individual. Regarding Idi Amin, if I recall correctly he was once a sergeant in the then British army in Uganda and was supported by the powers that be. Pinochet - well Maggie supports him. Hitler, a character who was once the toast of many in the British establishment. |
Subject: RE: english republicans From: GUEST Date: 09 Apr 02 - 03:01 AM Republicans are fucking boring halfwits who would elect anyone. Clinton, Bush, Blair, Hitler, Franco, Castro, Pinochet, Galtierie, Idi Amin, Mugabe, etc etc etc... At least we have an interesting monarchy that people enjoy. It adds colour and splendour to an otherwise boring bunch of politicians.... |
Subject: RE: english republicans From: Teribus Date: 09 Apr 02 - 03:00 AM English and Scots Republics - The funny thing with the latter is that one of the serious candidates for the first Scottish President would be Princess Anne. England would probably end up with Tony (so that he could finally get his version of Air Force One - never understood how he argued the case for that having disbanded the Queen's Flight), or, more likely, Posh & Becks. |
Subject: RE: english republicans From: greg stephens Date: 09 Apr 02 - 02:16 AM Yes,get rid of that twat Charles, bloody hugging trees and caring for the environment. Lets have a president, cant decide between the Bush and Saddam hussein role models |
Subject: RE: english republicans From: GUEST,Billy Date: 09 Apr 02 - 12:26 AM Bluebeard, I'd like to see Charles' head the same place they put William Wallace's! |
Subject: RE: english republicans From: Bluebeard Date: 08 Apr 02 - 11:54 PM Republicans may sometimes (inadvertently) elect dictators and arseholes but at least they have that choice. Most times they elect solid individuals. There is no choice with the royal family. These descendants of Mad King George, well you are stuck with them and if you are OK with that then bully for you. I left in 1969 and would prefer Canada to become a Republic once Queen Elizabeth dies. Don't want Charles's head on my money..... |
Subject: RE: english republicans From: GUEST,Billy Date: 08 Apr 02 - 11:29 PM Go for it Harvey. If there was an English republic and a Scottish republic, I might consider returning. I left in 1979 when the UK had two queens. |
Subject: RE: english republicans From: Hrothgar Date: 08 Apr 02 - 07:39 PM Is a republican somebody who becomes a publican for a second time? |
Subject: RE: english republicans From: GUEST Date: 08 Apr 02 - 07:32 PM We had a civil war once the republicans won it; and we promptly returned the Monarchy to the throne. Why? Because its better, Republicans elect dictators and assholes... |
Subject: RE: english republicans From: Cobble Date: 08 Apr 02 - 07:04 PM LET EM HAVE IT HARVEY, it's as good as throwing pot's at a wall. Cobble from near Boothferry Bridge. |
Subject: RE: english republicans From: harvey andrews Date: 08 Apr 02 - 07:00 PM Sorry, that was just a scream into the void.I feel so alone. |
