Subject: Rhythm of the Road From: Steve in Wisconsin Date: 06 Apr 98 - 09:07 PM Hi All- Just ran across part of a tape (of myself and a friend) doing a song called "Rhythm of the Road." You know, senility is a terrible thing to waste. I can't remember a thing about the song-who wrote it, words, chords, etc. Does it ring a bell with anyone? Many Thanks, Steve |
Subject: Lyr Add: RHYTHM OF THE ROAD (Dan McCoy) From: Jim Dixon Date: 11 Dec 10 - 04:31 PM Actually, there are several different songs called RHYTHM OF THE ROAD. Here's one of them: RHYTHM OF THE ROAD Written by Dan McCoy Performed by George Strait I'd rather be home but I make my livin' on the go. A Big silver eagle spreads her wings and drops us at another show. I think about holdin' my baby tonight as I listen to the big wheels roll, Three days into a six-week tour, gettin' in the rhythm of the road. We pick and sing say "goodnight" then we'll be flyin'. My world's a chain of one-night stands strung together by the center line. I don't know where I'll wake up tomorrow but I can't let the tempo slow. Ever' town is just another beat, livin' in the rhythm of the road. The rhythm of the road's got a mind of its own. If you fight it, it'll drive you insane. Like the clickity-clack of a railroad track, I'm rattlin' like an old freight train. Towns are flashin' by. The folks are wavin' "Hi." They all start to look the same. Gotta stop for a minute, be glad I'm in it, remember just why I came. Those highway signs, Lord, they keep me on the move. I think about givin' it up sometimes and gettin' in a diff'rent groove. But I just let the days slide by, get goin' with the flow. A four-four beat's the only time I keep, livin' in the rhythm of the road. A four-four beat's the only time I keep, livin' in the rhythm of the road, Yeah, livin' in the rhythm of the road. [There's a concert video at YouTube.] |
Subject: Lyr Add: RHYTHM OF THE ROAD (Larry Goddard) From: Jim Dixon Date: 11 Dec 10 - 04:36 PM RHYTHM OF THE ROAD Written by Larry Goddard Performed by the Larry Goddard and the Goatville Jam Band Rhythm of the road, Rhythm of the road. Rhythm of the road takes me back home. Rhythm of the road, Rhythm of the road, Rhythm of the road suits(?) me back home. Hey! The rhythm of the white lines passin' on the highway Syncopated fence posts and the mileage signs Remind me of your heartbeat pressed against my chest And my heart beats faster, my heart beats faster. Every little hometown, every single byway, I dream of kissin' your sweet lips and pouring you some ... (?). I get lost in your sweet arms, say I'll never leave you. Mesmerized by your charms, I just can't wait to see you. Race on down this country road, tryin' my best to lighten my load, Wishin' I had never left, but that's just a fool's game. Like the solo guitar ringin', my heart's racin', my heart's singin' Oh, it won't be long until you're back I my arms again. Like the solo guitar ringin', my heart's racin', my heart's singin' Oh, it won't be long until you're back I my arms again. Rhythm of the road, Rhythm of the road, Rhythm of the road. [Two videos at YouTube: a rehearsal and a performance. There is also a sample at Larry Goddard's web site.] |
Subject: Lyr Add; RHYTHM OF THE ROAD (Murphey/Quarto) From: Jim Dixon Date: 11 Dec 10 - 04:43 PM RHYTHM OF THE ROAD Written by Michael Martin Murphey and Charles J. Quarto Performed by Michael Martin Murphey There's a rhythm of the road that you can feel, you can feel, Like a feeling of quicksilver in your heels, in your heels, The high uncertain singing of the unknown rider's song ― It's that high uncertain singing that will carry him along. And what will lighten his load? (I don't know) ― It's that everlasting rhythm of the road... There's a rhythm of the road that is a mix, is a mix, Like a banjo and a trucker trading licks, trading licks, This is just the same song I've been picking all my life ― And it's burning there within me like the full moon in the night. And what can lighten our load? It's the everlasting rhythm of the road. There's a rhythm of the road that hides the miles, hides the miles, It appears once you've been riding for awhile, for awhile. Wake up in the morning and you wonder where you are; As you turn around and wonder just how fast you got that far, And what can lighten our load? It's the everlasting rhythm of the road. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Rhythm of the Road From: Jim Dixon Date: 11 Dec 10 - 05:13 PM Here are some more songs with the same title for which I couldn't get complete lyrics. The lyrics I do have come from samples at Allmusic.com: RHYTHM OF THE ROAD Written by Bridget Law & Elephant Revival Recorded by Elephant Revival ...this road it is remindin' we may never feel the same again. Ridin' round the bend of the winding western(?) trail, The sun it slowly sinks below the trees, And that sweet-home sense is callin' as the night-time weekend's fallin' Wherever I hang my hat I'll call my home. The rhythm of the road along that river flowin'.... [Two concert videos at YouTube: at Rancho del Rio, CO and at Portland, OR. Both have poor sound quality, or maybe it's the lead singer's wimpy voice and poor diction, but I found it impossible to transcribe the whole song.] RHYTHM OF THE ROAD Written & recorded by Dave Parks ...road that keeps me goin' When I'm feelin' tired and all alone. As long as there's another crowd, I ain't ever slowin' down. I love the rhythm of the road. Friday night it's Oklahoma City.... RHYTHM OF THE ROAD Dan McLellan Recorded by the Kenny Jacks Band ...woman on my mind. I'll be with her pretty soon Make my run an' take my fun Each night and when I go Sing my highway song and go rollin' along To the rhythm of the road. Well, I fell in with this convoy near the mason-dixon.... RHYTHM OF THE ROAD L. Aschman / N. Conescu / M. Flower Recorded by Mary Flower ...down these hard-luck roads Dust on the dashboard and holes in my clothes Heat on the highway and where I might drift... RHYTHM OF THE ROAD Shirley Eikhard / Nancy Simmonds / Sylvia Tyson Recorded by Sylvia Tyson What a crazy feelin' Rockin' an' a-reelin' to the rhythm of the road RHYTHM OF THE ROAD William J Nershi Recorded by The String Cheese Incident ... lights starting to glow.
