Does America have an equivalent of our MCPS Limited Availability Product Licence? This takes care of copyright and royalties for short-run product.

Alice, the spelling of the band with English John in it is

Whorticulture

Perhaps if you just take the 'E' out of the name as you spelt it, it will be accepted!

A few more random thoughts:
  • Clearly any copyright issues must be checked before this CD goes public. I hope that contributors will do the necessary research and make their sources clear so Amos doesn't have to do the work and take the responsibility.
  • I hope the copyright of the contributors will be acknoweledged and respected. On the CD which I have sent Amos, (of myself and Mary Humphreys) we invite anyone to use the arrangements and versions of songs that Mary has made (though from traditional sources, she has re-written or compiled some of the words from different versions and fitted or written new tunes to others) - all we ask is that she is acknowledged. "Name Names", as Chris Coe said at the singing competition at the National FF this year, referring to singers' introductions to their songs.
  • Amos - with all this encouragement for contributions, what's going to happen if there are (as I would imagine there will be) too many contributors to be able to represent every one on the CD? Will it expand to a boxed set? (!)

I think two will do it, worst case. All the encouragement is to bring out the silent, raise up the slain, heal the dead, and bring them all out of silence, singing.

In the final analysis we may get more then we can handle in one CD, but there are many catters out there who have not responded yet but who will when the sound of the trump penetrates! :>) If you have thought of it, but are waiting for a personal encouragement, please advise. Your package of personal encouragement is waiting here for you!! :>)

I don't know everyone, so I may not think to write you all (and doubt I could!) but don't wait for that! Speak! Sing! Play! Record! Send!!

A

Áine suggests a good title for the Mudcat Sampler CD:

Wake Up, Rise Up and Sing!

A Mudcat Sampler

How about

Mudcat Cafe

Blue Plate Special!

Somehow, "Wake Up, Rise Up and Sing!" seems a little too 1930s-struggling-workers for this crowd. (sorry Aine!)

But its your call, Big A!

Hey, I'm easy -- I'd rather wake up, rise up and sing than wake up, rise up, and go to the office! When I sing at the office they look at me funny. And I've had enough o' that!! And we're all a little wobbly one way or another.

LOL!!

Open to suggestions! Chocolate-covered Folk Songs! Step right up!!

Meanwhile, get your cuts prepared, folkies -- it's only gonna be the best compilation ever seen -- imagine!! Folkies all over the planet just coming together and playing and singing 'cuz they feel like it and like each other. Wow!! Wodda concept!!

Amos, I would like to contribute, but you know that I have never been in pure folk. I'm mainly a classical choral tenor in love with old spirituals and traditionals. Would some 70+ year old song, accompanied by piano, be ok ? Are these songs free from copyright hassle ? I'm thinking Amazing Grace, Shenandoah, or Love Song from Robeson's movie Sanders of the River (1930). If you prefer a typical Argentinean song, just tell me, but that could be out of the general orientation of the CD.

I can obtain a technically good CD and MP3.

Un abrazo - Andrés

I know a beautiful song in Welsh from Argentina - more precisely from the Patagonian area where a lot of Welsh folks settled last century and took their culture with them. So what is wrong with an Argenitnian folk song Andres ? Go for it! Mary

I agree the "What do you think? I like it!" would be a great subtitle or even title. The only thing I have against the other one suggested is that it is too much like that old book "Rise Up Singing" and may have definite associations for some...but the sentiment behind it is nice.

What about "Songs for All of Us"?

A CD!!! What a wonderful idea!!! I can not think of a better candidate to represent the acoustic blues, on what is sure to be a fabulous collection of artists, than our own dwditty. For those of you who may not of heard him he is a great thumb style guitar player with an incredible voice. He is also a talented writer. Hop into paltalk to hear him sometime if you haven't already. Those of you who know his music will understand why I think he will be a wonderful addition on the mudcat CD. I can see it being a fabulous and eclectic collection ( gosh say that 5 times fast) of music and I look forward with great excitement at the outcome of this project. xoxoxox hugggss -Rory- P.S. My title idea.... "Music in the key of M" The Mudcat Collection Vol 1

Mary H: Patagonian Welsh!!! Wow!!! That's what I purely love about the 'Cat -- ya learn so much. Can we count on a rendition?

Peg -- I like Songs for All of Us!! Any more candidates for a CD Title?? Come on you Undying Literature Mongers!! Gyamme a Phrase!! Peter T, where are ya???

Mudcat In Your Eyes?

That Mudcat Feeling?

What a Mudcat World?

Owe My Soul to the Mudcat?

The World on a Set of Strings?

The Mudcat Came Back?

Around the Mudcat World (in 650 Megabytes)?

Gee, I'm flat tonight. I don't like any of these!!

Note that this goofing around is tolerated because these sterling Cats have already laid down their licks and blown the groove clear to Daddio, man; they're hip to the scene, like. :>) Meaning they've sent in their cuts for the CD!

Arise, awake and Sing!!

That's a perfect example of the kinds of things I say to my thirteen year old daughter and her friends when I really want to embarrass her. The look of pain on her face is classic, while her friends just look astonished.

I do think this is all really far out, and "madcuts from mudcats" is really neat, Pops.

I still like Blueplate Special, and I dig the concept of the cover art being a white plate on a red checkered tablecloth next to a cup of black coffee. On the plate are a serving of mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, a dinner roll, and a CD.

Hey LEJ, if it's a blue plate special, why would you want the cover art to be a white plate on the tablecloth? Maybe I'm just too young to be hip to the scene, but it seems to me like there should be a blue plate.

You know homeless, you've got a point. I don't know why it was called a "blue plate special" at the old lunch counters, because it was usually on a white plate or whatever they normally served on, but a light blue plate would probably make more sense.
