Subject: Help with Ulster Irish names, please
From: CapriUni
Date: 15 Apr 02 - 02:29 PM

Hello!

I'm currently trying to write an article for a local Neo-Pagan/Mainstream magazine (mixed audience -- wide range of background knowledge) on the ethics of being accurate with history, even if that history is not as grand or as favorable as we would like, and I'd like to cite an Irish folktale I found that addresses this very issue. But I don't want to put my readers off with all the Irish names. Could one (or some) of the nice Mudcatters who are fluent in the language give me a hand with English phonetic spellings of the following? It doesn't have to be embassy perfect, but I'd like to give the readers a pretty good sense of how the names sound.

Thank you!

Mongán Mac Fiachai
Dál nAraidhe
Ráth Mór Magh Linne
Dallán Forgaill
Masraighe Maighin
Breothighearn
Fothad Airgheach, Canainne, Cairptheach
Ailill Flann Beag, Niadh Nask
Féic
Dubhthair Laighean
Ulaidh
Cumals
Tech Duinn, Léin, Ui Fidgente, Suir
Tuárthesc, Nid
Coailte Fianna

P.S. The deadline for the article is in two weeks...
