Subject: RE: MERLEFEST,Anyone going? From: pattyClink Date: 17 Apr 02 - 12:28 PM Don't go to the website unless you're ready to shut down your browser. It's one of those 'you can't leave' sticky sites. |
Subject: RE: MERLEFEST,Anyone going? From: Dharmabum Date: 17 Apr 02 - 03:53 PM Haven't been on their website in a few days. Sorry to hear you got jammed up there. I would imagine there must be a lot of traffic there this close to the fest. DB. |

Subject: RE: MERLEFEST,Anyone going? From: Folkie101 Date: 30 Apr 06 - 10:39 PM Hello Barbara Shaw, Did you see/hear Pete Seeger perform? If so, what did he sing and what was his performance like? He inspires me still :) Glad you had a super time! Folkie |
Subject: RE: MERLEFEST,Anyone going? From: Barbara Shaw Date: 01 May 06 - 08:07 PM Just got home awhile ago (Monday evening) and we're zombies... Yes, I saw and heard Pete Seeger perform. Can't remember what song it was, but it was in the touring show "Ribbon of Highway Endless Skyway" which is a tribute to Woody Guthrie, so it was a Guthrie song. He is in his 80's but stood there and joked about tuning his banjo and played and sang very movingly. Then for the grand finale when everyone backstage joined the people in the show (Norah and Sarah Guthrie, Tao Rodriguez, Jay & Molly, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, etc.) they all sang "This Land is Your Land" slowly, with thousands of singers from the audience joining in. It was incredibly powerful and I'm the jerk who was crying over this corny old song... Merlefest is an amazing festival. The list of performers is like a directory of who performs today, from the stars on down to the best beginners. The campus is beautiful (THIS is a community college? With lush gardens and waterfalls tucked away in stone stairways and amphitheaters dug into hillsides. Not around my part of the country). The portapotty trailer even had air-conditioning along with regular doors around flush toilets and sinks with soap and hot/cold water. Separate facilities for men and women. Dozens of food and gift vendors --hey, I just remembered I never made it to the craft tent-- and 13 different stages for concerts and workshops. And the friendliest people I've ever run into. And then there's the Blue Ridge Mountains. Back to planet Connecticut. |

Subject: RE: MERLEFEST,Anyone going? From: Barbara Shaw Date: 02 May 06 - 05:02 PM Sorry, didn't see anyone named Ian McDonald. There were so many things I missed because there was so much going on all the time. Was he in a group? |
