Subject: Lyr Add: DID YOU EVER (L Hazlewood, Nancy Sinatra)
From: Brakn
Date: 24 Apr 02 - 06:50 AM

(L)Did you ever
(N)Not so much that you could notice
(L)Well could you estimate how many
(N)Eight or nine
(L)Will you do it anymore
(N)As soon as you walk out the door
(L)Well I just wondered did you ever
(N)All the time

(N)Could I fix you one small
(L)No thanks I just had one
(N)Then how about a nice big
(L)That would be just fine
(N)Is there any special way
(L)Ah no whatever you say
(N)Well I just wondered have you ever
(L)All the time

(L)Does he look like
(N)No he's taller and more handsome
(L)Yeah but is he old
(N)Oh no he's young and he's in his prime
(L)Does your father know I'll bet
(N)Mmm mmm I haven't told him yet
(L)I just wondered do you ever
(N)All the time

(N)But just for old time's sake
(L)Ah that would be much harder?
(N)Then how about
(L)Well are sure that you don't mind
(N)Ok I know just the thing for us
(L)Naw I'm afraid I'll miss my bus
(N)Well I just wondered have you ever
(L)All the time
(L & N)I just wondered did you ever
(L & N)All the time

Not sure about harder in the last verse!

Confirmation: (Guinness British Hit Singles 11th edition); This was in the U.K. charts from 21 Aug 1971 for a total of 19 weeks, reaching No. 2 and was billed as Nancy and Lee

Those are the lines I remember too. It was Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra made the gags work by never quite finishing a line. I rather liked it. It must have been sometime between 1970 and 1972. "Did you ever count how many..." "Eight or nine.." is another line which springs to mind.

I remember some of the lines; "Can I fix you one small..." "No thanks I just had one" "Well how about a nice....." "Well that would be just fine" "I've got just the thing for us....." "No, I'm afraid I'll miss my bus" "Well I just wondered, did you ever...." "All the time" Sorry I don't remember more. C-flat.

Lanfranc: The arrival of the original does not preclude a parody.
In fact, a parody is made easier if the original can be seen. This gives the opportunity to re-use rhyme schemes and actual rhymes, with subtle re-workings!

I have located a few secondhand singles, but no lyrics. I believe it was written by Lee Hazelwood, who was the alternate voice on the Nancy Sinatra record.

Hope someone comes up with the lyrics, I feel a parody coming on otherwise!

Alan

"well how about..."

"No, that would be much, harder"

"Does your father know, I'll Bet"- "Oh no I haven't told him yet"-"Well I just ask you, did you ever?" - "All the time"
The first two are parts of lines, The latter 2+ lines are continuous, but switching voices where the quote marks stop & re-start.
Just from memory!

I think Nancy Sinatra recorded this with Lee Hazlewood, and maybe Hazlewood wrote it. I haven't found the lyrics, though. Can you quote a line from it (other than the title)?

I don't think that's the one being saught, As it's Nancy Sinatra, I think it will be the one with the tag line
"Well I just ask you, 'Did you ever?', 'All the time'"

Subject: Lyr Add: DID YOU EVER LOVE SOMEBODY?
From: Ebbie
Date: 17 Apr 02 - 02:05 PM

Might it be this one?

DID YOU EVER LOVE SOMEBODY?

Did you ever love somebody?
So much that the earth moved
Did you ever love somebody?
Even though it hurt to.

Did you ever love somebody?
Nothing else the heart could do
Did you ever love somebody?
Who never knew?

Did you ever lay your head down?
On the shoulder of a good friend?
And then have to look away somehow
Had to hide the way you felt for them?

Have you ever prayed the day would come?
You'd hear them say they feel it too
Did you ever love somebody?
Who never knew.

And if you did,
Well, you know I'd understand
I could I would
More than anybody can.

Did you ever love somebody?
So much that the earth moves
Did you ever love somebody?
Even though it hurt to.

Did you ever love somebody?
Nothing else your heart could do
Did you ever love somebody?
Like I love you.
Like I love you.
Like I love you.

HTML line breaks added. --JoeClone, 27-Apr-02.

I know that isn't a folk song, however I'm looking for the words to this song. I've tried the internet pages but can't find it anywhere. So if anyone can help me I'll be more than gratful for that.
