Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Round & Round, Jug Band Song From: Stewie Date: 10 May 02 - 09:12 PM If you are thinking of investing in Memphis Jug Band recordings, it is well to bear in mind the complete works are available on David French's Frog label. There are 3 volumes. Volumes 1 and 3 were first issued on JSP label. Frog issued Vol 2 and later reissued Vols 1 and 3. 'Round and Round' is on Vol 3. These are all remastered by the best in the business - John R.T. Davis. The sound is greatly superior to the Document issues. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Round & Round, Jug Band Song From: Jim Dixon Date: 10 May 02 - 02:17 PM "Ary"—I'm not sure of the spelling, but it is pronounced like "airy"—is an archaic word that shows up in dialect sometimes. You won't find it in an ordinary dictionary. It means "any." It's the opposite of "nary"—which you can find in American dictionaries—and which means "none." The OED says that "nary" is a dialect word derived from "ne'er a" (never a). I can't find "ary" but it seems logical that it comes from "e'er a" (ever a). |
