Now here's a mystery I,ve always meant to try and solve and when I was driving along the 303 the other day I put this cassette into the slot and it got me thinking about it again.

A while ago (several years) a friend gave me a copy of the Tannahill Weaver's Land of Light except that when I played the cassette it wasn't what it said on the label. Instead I had an Irish sounding band and I havn't the faintest idea who they are or indeed why they were masquarading as the Tannahill Weavers!

It's a great traditional cassette. It starts of side one with "McCaffery" and includes other well known items such as The Banks of Newfoundland and an interesting slow version of the Wild Rover (don't laugh it's quite good) to a different tune. But the track I like best is an instrumental which sounds like a mazurka and I'd love to find out the name of the tune so my band can use it.

Can anyone out there offer any clues? Is it something well known or have I stumbled across some rare recording by accident?

Thanks

Sarah

Distribute copies of the tape to your band, practise it and use it. The lawsuit will tell you whose tune it was !!

Click here and search for John Faulkner's 'Kind Providence'. You'll find a tracklist with the three songs. I bet that's it.

You beat me to it, Wolfgang! I'm thinking that the "mazurka" is likely to be the (unnamed) planxty.
