Subject: Duffy Power From: Joe in the'pool Date: 19 Apr 02 - 04:54 AM I've been listening to a great British blues player called Duffy Power, I know he used to be in Pentangle (my brother in law bought me an album for xmas ) but I would love to have any of his lyrics and chords, (especially 'Mary Open the Door!) his vocals, guitar and harmonica playing is, something else. Any assistance would be warmly appreciated.. Many thanks. Joe |

Subject: RE: Duffy Power From: MARINER Date: 19 Apr 02 - 03:39 PM I remember him from the Larry Parnes "stable". All the boys with the descriptive names, Johnny Gentle, Dickie Pride, Vince Eager,Duffy Power, and the great Billy Fury.Oh, and Tommy Steele. |

Subject: RE: Duffy Power From: Les Jones Date: 20 Apr 02 - 03:24 AM Was he the one who recorded Dirty Old Town, late 50's early 60's? |
Subject: RE: Duffy Power From: fat B****rd Date: 20 Apr 02 - 04:26 AM I saw Duffy "Power" along with Dickie "Pride" in the early sixties, he never seemed to be considered with the likes of the Roling Stones etc but I thought he was damn good. I remember "Tired, broke and busted" as his best single.I believe he's still active, I certainly hope so. Ah ! those pre-Beatles Britrockers !! The people who played in those Package Shows often went on to become biiig names. |
Subject: RE: Duffy Power From: Mr Red Date: 20 Apr 02 - 01:46 PM didn't he play in many groups and earned something of a cult status in the industry or was that just hype before we called it hype? |
Subject: RE: Duffy Power From: GUEST,joe in the 'pool Date: 21 Apr 02 - 07:56 AM Sorcha, I've tried Google and stuff, but I'm having no luck regarding easy guitar chords (I'm just a little learner) but Ta! Mariner, Duffy appears on the odd album as a guest I think playing the gob iron. I will investigate further!! Mr Red, he appeared in Liverpool (I did not get to see him) which was sold out instantly! he is certainly not hyped! but a grafter for his art? Peace and Love Joe |
Subject: RE: Duffy Power From: Mr Red Date: 22 Apr 02 - 07:41 AM OK he's a grafter. But what is real in the world of pop? Time is the only arbiter and that plays cruel tricks. Even with Folk music! |
Subject: RE: Duffy Power From: GUEST,sue harris Date: 22 Apr 02 - 06:31 PM I think Duffy Power sang with Long John Baldry at some point in the Sixties. He certainly came to Coventry and sang great Blues as I remember. |
Subject: RE: Duffy Power From: GUEST,Joe in the 'pool Date: 22 Apr 02 - 06:54 PM Mr Red, Is rite! but check out his early '70's G. British blues album, I only have a crappy recording on tape but I love anyway, it always pops? up in the car..and it always will.. Sue, I've read that somewhere..I will have to go online and discover some truths! The report back I got on his concert in Liverpool was 'he was brilliant'. Joe |
