From: Nigel Parsons
Date: 19 Apr 02 - 04:30 PM

For those who are interested, This quiz is strictly for the birds. Liabilities may have been taken with spellings
Please do not post answers in the thread!
There is, again, a common thread to the answers!

1, What runs around the deck of a ship, or is another means of transport ?
2, What was shot by the Ancient Mariner ?
3, Who was the "running-mate" and vice President to George Bush (senior) ?
4, What was the name of John Wayne's character in "True Grit" ?
5, According to J K Rowling in the Harry Potter books, what form of post is used by wizards ?
6, Which British bank, (now part on Nat West) specialises in accounts for the very rich and famous ?
7, Apart from being described as "the Bard", Shakespeare was also known as the...(what) of Avon ?
8, In which comic did Dan Dare first appear ?
9, What was the title of the best known work of Arthur Ransome, who wrote in the Lake District ?
10, Who starred in the multi- Oscar winning film "Gladiator" ?
11, Which 1975 film starred Jack Nicholson as a sane man in a lunatic asylum ?
12, What was the name of Sarah Fergusson's helicopter ?
13, Talking of helicopters, "Hueys" share their name with what type of cartoon character ?
14, In chess, which other piece must move in order for a king to move more than one space (in one turn) ?
15, In which film does Mel Gibson provide the voice of "Rocky" ?
16, Who wrote "Gullivers Travels" ?
17, What name is given to wide bottomed trousers, or persons mentally unbalanced ?
18, Which Saint is remembered for his charity in giving half his cloak to a freezing beggar ?
19, What "game" is being played when two drivers aim directly at one another, to see who will "bottle out" first ?
20, What was the full title of the painting (by Van Klomp) featured in numerous episodes of "Allo Allo" ?

Definitely a few Anglocentric ones this time, which may make it harder! Answers in a few days in the usual place!

Nigel

I got stuck on No.13, I couldn't think of it so I started searching web site on "Hueys", trying to find a nickname for them and couldn't, gave up, came back to the quiz to submit my answers and suddenly realized I'd misread the question D'oh! (moral:- If all else fails -Read the question twice)

Regards

Walrus

For Guest: yes the first quiz was lacking in any music connotation, but the thread title was preceded by "BS", a sure sign that something may run 'Off-topic' However, apart from some of the following questions mentioning music, there are some musical connections in the answers! In an attempt to get more people scoring 20, this quiz has 24 questions (Generous, aint I) The answers, once found, form 8 sets of 3, but not necessarily together. For the benefit of those to the West of the Atlantic, it may help to start with 22,23,24 which are one set!
The liberties taken with spelling and/or pronunciation may be greater than usual. You have been warned. Comments welcome here. but please keep answers for PMs.

Guest: Common thread, not in the 24 question one, but that contains 8 threads of 3 answers, and, as a *Big Hint*.
The whole thing "in its totality" does not refer to Christopher Columbus being a Musical Producer of a Clint Eastwood Film. He was merely a Stooge who had the good Grace to be Leaving On A Jet Plane for the Marrakesh Express
