Any idea why the album was named as such?

Garry

The short-tailed shearwater is a most amazing bird. They all nest on some little island in the South, the entire species laying their eggs on the same day. They feed their young on anchovies until they (the young) are too stuffed to move, at which point all the adults fly off to some island off the coast of Siberia. By the time the young have starved enough to move they have also grown wings, and off they go, joining their parents on a little island on the other side of the world... and nobody knows how they know the way...!

Many thanks, fellow Pete.

That makes a lot of sense.

Thank you.

Shearwater is a small lake near Warminster in Wiltshire. Martin and his family, Dorothy & Rachel, used to live nearby in the late 1960's to early 70's as I recall. Seems reasonable that there was some personal link with the place.

thread drift: Speaking of shearwaters, a Manx shearwater was recently recaptured at a breeding colony in Britain. That individual was first caught and banded in 1957. At that time it was believed to be about 5 years old. So it is now about 50 and still trying to breed. Based on typical habits and migration patterns of the species, it was estimated it could have flown 5 million km (or miles, I forget which units were used) in its lifetime

Snuffy,

I know what a Shearwater is, but was wondering why Martin named the album after said bird.
