Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD III: Keep It Rollin' Home! From: Amos Date: 25 Apr 02 - 05:34 PM Thaks, Sorch!! I'm out the dooor!! If I don't fall off the mountain I'll be back Sunday with tales of Nate Harrison, runaway slave. A. |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD III: Keep It Rollin' Home! From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 25 Apr 02 - 05:46 PM Katlaughing has been kind enough to agree to convert my cassette tape, and will forward the results, she says above, next week. Thanx, Kat! I've included three songs: There's been uncertainty, as I read it, as to how many selections each "artist" might have on the the CD(s). I've done these songs in declining order of preference from my point of view. Dave Oesterreich |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD III: Keep It Rollin' Home! From: Sorcha Date: 25 Apr 02 - 07:29 PM Hey, Dave, I just sent a whole tape and gave Amos final cut rights. I don't care what he uses or how much. How much probably depends on how many of us send stuff in. |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD III: Keep It Rollin' Home! From: Lonesome EJ Date: 25 Apr 02 - 10:05 PM We could call the British Edition Ploughman's Lunch and feature a CD with cheddar, sliced apple, Branston's Pickle, and a pint of bitters. Or how about the Australian version...three barbecued shrimp, a mutton pastie, chips, a jar of Vegemite, two scones, beefsteak, mug of Foster's and call it Snack? |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD III: Keep It Rollin' Home! From: Cappuccino Date: 26 Apr 02 - 02:44 AM I was going to suggest that the most accurate contemporary British version would be to call it Tikka Masala, and then realised I sounded racist! That Ploughman's is a great idea. But d'you know, I have never ever tasted vegemite? Can you get it in Britain? - Ian B |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD III: Keep It Rollin' Home! From: Jeanie Date: 26 Apr 02 - 05:15 AM Vegemite ! So much better than Marmite (the eating variety, not McGrath's song, which cannot be beaten) ! The Australian Shop in Savoy Street off the Strand in London used to sell it by the ton - still does, I'm sure, if the shop is still there. |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD III: Keep It Rollin' Home! From: treewind Date: 26 Apr 02 - 06:33 AM Talking of a UK version, how is the UK distribution going to be done? Assuming the CD's are made in one pressing run, it would make sense to ship a big box of them here in one go and distribute them by inland mail to mudcatters who want a copy. Is it going to go into commercial distribution and retail too? Er, not sure if I'm volunteering for anything, just wondered... Anahata |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD III: Keep It Rollin' Home! From: Amos Date: 28 Apr 02 - 09:12 PM Dave: Thanks for letting me know your preferences -- I will certainly respect them. We'll be using MP3s as the burn source and I don't know how many we will be able to squeeze into one disk, and may even go to two. The UK distirbution problem is noted as an issue. I am waiting to hear from Emperor Maximillian the 30, as to how he wants handle the whole distro thing. More on this one later, PK??? Hey!! I just got back from three days on a dusty, grungy,m BEAUTIFUL fogbound and rainlashed mountain top to find all these great tapes and CDs waiting for me. Just so you-all knbow they have arived: SORCHA'S TAPE! CHARCLOTH'S CD! HARVEY'S CD! HARPMAKER's CD!!! RADRIANO'S TAPE _AND_ RADRIANO'S CD!! Two different ones!! Double wow, Radriano!! God, i wish I could take weeks to write to ALL of you and report all the joys, smoles, hoots, hollers, grins and chocolate frissons your songs induce. They are sooooo good!! Way to go, guys!! Keep 'em coming if you're still on that shor tlist who haven't sent yet!! A

Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD III: Keep It Rollin' Home! From: Stephen L. Rich Date: 29 Apr 02 - 12:52 AM Is there anybody out there who can draw? It just dawned on me that we don't need a photograph, as such, of the proposed cover (the whole checkered tablecloth thing. see earlier in this thread for description). If there's a 'Catter or two who is good with a pencil or a brush or whatever who can draw or paint the blue plate special we're off and running!! Even if it's in black and white we're cool. We can add color and lettering in Photoshop. Pencils at the ready,'Catters. Let's make this happen !!!!! Stephen |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD III: Keep It Rollin' Home! From: Stephen L. Rich Date: 29 Apr 02 - 01:05 AM One more little thing that i just remembered. If you do a drawing, please, put it in a square space (like a CD cover) it will make resizing and whatnot easier (and we'd hate to have to crop out any part of a good drawing to make it fit). Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD III: Keep It Rollin' Home! From: Lonesome EJ Date: 30 Apr 02 - 01:14 PM Well, homeless did this art, which I think is pretty damn good. |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD III: Keep It Rollin' Home! From: Homeless Date: 30 Apr 02 - 03:34 PM Sorry LEJ, you can't link directly to pictures on that site (I can't even do it, it's a rule the host has). If anyone wants to see the picture he's referring to, go here and click the "Updated" link. |

(I'm used to dealing with free hosts. Grrr.) Nice, Homeless, what did you make it with? I'd put more of a country scene outside the window. Some trees leaning over the brick wall... |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD III: Keep It Rollin' Home! From: Deda Date: 30 Apr 02 - 04:28 PM Boy, do I LOVE that cover art, Homeless! It's fabulous. But I thought of another possible subtitle. I really liked "Mad cuts from the Mudcat" (euphonious!) -- but to go with the Blue plate special theme, how about "Prime cuts from the Cafe"? Or even just "Prime cuts"?

Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD III: Keep It Rollin' Home! From: Áine Date: 30 Apr 02 - 05:29 PM Hey, that's G-R-E-A-T, Homeless!! You created almost the exact same picture I had in my mind for The Blue Plate Special ;-) The only difference is, I had pictured a lovely fresh mudcat (catfish) on the plate instead of a CD. What do ya think? Beautiful job, darlin'! And a hard act to follow, too. All the best, Áine |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD III: Keep It Rollin' Home! From: Stephen L. Rich Date: 30 Apr 02 - 06:47 PM I PM'd homeless about this, but it should be said before all, "Well done, homeless!" Stephen |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD III: Keep It Rollin' Home! From: Bobert Date: 30 Apr 02 - 07:01 PM Sorcha: I love the tape and the total happiness your band captures. For a more gushing review check out Tweeds. Amos: I don't know if this has any bearing on the name at all but there is a WPFW in D.C. has a noontime blues show by the same name... But they are real mellow folks who probably wouldn't mind. Just thought I should throw that out. |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD III: Keep It Rollin' Home! From: Sorcha Date: 30 Apr 02 - 07:05 PM Well, bobert, ya really should grease up yer ears. I am told that fiddle is out of tune! (grin) Maybe Amos will use Road to Lisdoonvarna and prove that Old Time Fiddlers do indeed play jigs! (thanks, mon) |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD III: Keep It Rollin' Home! From: michaelr Date: 30 Apr 02 - 07:17 PM Yes, Homeless's artwork is great! But there's room for more than one person's artwork on the cover, so I encourage all artists to get to work. Since I seem to be coordinating tyhe cover art, PM me if you've got something. Cheers, Michael |

Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD III: Keep It Rollin' Home! From: Tweed Date: 30 Apr 02 - 09:22 PM We had WLS....in Chicago 50,000 watts of power coming out of the windy city and mowing down a swath from just outside Indianapolis clear up to Lake of the Woods, Ontario on good nites. I suggest the Mudcat's Blue Plate Special be mixed with the sound of rattled potato chip bags in the background to get that authentic AM radio sound. I'm fairly certain that static had it's effect on all of us at an early age as we are mostly gettin' pretty old and grew up with it and managed to keep our interest in at least one thing for most of our lives. '57 rusted out buick, speaker in the middle of the dash, am radio dial glowin' in the dark and Stevie Wonder playin' "Fingertips" and Wilson Pickett hollerin' about the Land of a Thousand Dances. Yowzah, Gimme that static. Mind altering experience fer an twelve year old. Never got over it. |

Or when I spent the summers in Surf City, N.J. clamming by day and partying by night, it was WABC out of N.Y. City with Jerry Blavett, the "Geeter with the Heater". As to the ride: anything we could bum off an adult would do just fine. PAAARRRRRTTTTTEEEEEEE.... |

Dig it, sing it, tape it down, ship it out and add your vibes to that Infinite River of Song on the Mudcat Sampler CD.....and do it now!! It's gonnnnnnna be a gaaaaaassss, man!!! A |

Subject: RE: MUDCAT CD III: Keep It Rollin' Home! From: Homeless Date: 01 May 02 - 06:03 PM To everyone who complimented my artwork, thank you very much indeed, but I can't take credit for it all - LEJ did the hard part, coming up with the idea and describing it. All I did was put mouse to pad, push a few buttons, and move a few pixels. I've been giving him previews so that he can make suggestions toward what he wanted (which is why that was out there). It's his creativity, I'm only doing the gruntwork.
hesperis - I used an older version of Bryce. It used to be made by Metacreations, but now Corel has it. You can learn more about it here, bryce if you're interested. Or do a search for it - there are lots of forums and sites dedicated to it. And I'm with michaelr on this one - there's more artists out there. I'd like to see a few other people's creations myself. |

From: alison Date: 02 May 02 - 04:03 AM well call me picky too... but I have never heard of a "blue plate special" either...... and no I don't have any other alternatives to suggest... I do like the idea........ but at the risk of being shot down... its too American........... and although I know that the majority of 'catters are from the US it sort of rules out many of the other countries represented at mudcat from the title...... slainte alison |

Your viewpoint is especially valuable, since you have put in so many miles being chased over hill and dale by Biggus Mickus!! What do they call it in Strine, then, when a diner has a special meal that they offer, usually for a low price, nothing fancy to it but solid grub on special? A |
