My wife has a favourite piece of music that was used as a theme in the film "The Mission". It has been recorded by David Agnew as "Gabriel's Oboe" here in Ireland but, we are informed is more accurately called "Nella Fantasia". Can anyone give any more info, eg a Lyric, if any and perhaps even the music score??

On the Virgin cd soundtrack, "The Mission," it is listed as "Gabriel's Oboe." I couldn't identify the two small clips (Amazon) provided.

"Gabriel's Oboe" is an instrumental piece; "Nella Fantasia" was written later as a song. Lyrics & info are HERE.

I have not heard Sarah Brightman sing this song, but the words, expressing a wish for humanity, deserve exposure.

IN MY FANTASY

I saw "The Mission," about the Christianizing and subjugation of the natives; a most disturbing film.

I looked this up on CDNow and the track listings say that it was written by Ennio Morricone, who specialises in composing movie music.

This might help you in your search.
