Subject: Our House is a Home From: dulcimer Date: 23 Apr 02 - 09:48 PM The first line to this Irish song is "There's always a fire in the kitchen." Would like the lyrics. Would also like information on writer and music. |

Subject: Lyr Add: OUR HOUSE IS A HOME (Maurice Soye) From: Brakn Date: 24 Apr 02 - 10:12 AM There's always a fire in the kitchen There's always a kettle on the boil There's no fancy carpets or no telephone But the one thing our house is a home A stranger is always welcome Be it any time of night or day So don't ever feel sad or lonesome Just call as you pass on your way There's always a fire in the kitchen There's always a kettle on the boil There's no fancy carpets or no telephone But the one thing our house is a home It's seen many happy and sad times But it still remains through it all Though times may have chaged all around it There's still a word of welcome in the hall |

Subject: Lyr Add: THIS HOUSE IS YOUR HOUSE (M Reynolds) From: Charley Noble Date: 24 Apr 02 - 12:46 PM Thanks for the info, Brakn. Here's a similar one from Malvina Reynolds in exchange: THIS HOUSE IS YOUR HOUSE (Words and music by Malvina Reynolds © 1966 by Schroder Music Co. In Muse of Parker Street) This house is your house; You can do what you want here; You can sleep, you can eat, You can talk or retreat; You can sing, you can laugh, And you don't have to ask; This house is your house. This house is your house; You can do what you want here; You can sprawl in a chair, Run your hand through my hair, Read a book, come or go, Ask me things I don't know; This house is your house. This house is your house; You can do what you want here; It is cozy and good And the hod's full of wood; When you're ready to leave I will bid you godspeed, And you know where I keep the key; This house is your house. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Our House is a Home From: GUEST, GEST Date: 27 Apr 03 - 03:49 PM The fourth line of the chorus in the version Brakn posted would make more sense with the word 'is' repeated. Was this just a typo, or did the author write it that way? "There's always a fire in the kitchen There's always a kettle on the boil There's no fancy carpets or no telephone But the one thing our house is a home" vs. "But the one thing our house is, is a home." |
