Subject: RE: BS: Radio na Gaeltachta From: Fiolar Date: 28 Apr 02 - 05:46 AM Aine: Ard Macha gave the answer. Sky used to transmit their programmes on analogue format which was received on a fairly large satellite dish. Most if not all their programmes are now digital which is received on a dish which is a fraction of the size. It is called a "digidish" for short. The beauty of a digital receiver is that programmes can be added regularly and via your telephone line which by the way does not interfere in any way with normal telephone communication. When I switched originally to digital, I lost the ability to pick up RTE. However now, that radio channel and a host of others are available. |
Subject: RE: BS: Radio na Gaeltachta From: brioc Date: 28 Apr 02 - 10:08 AM Oh yes the digidish! We are on a pretty old (shared) analogue system and one fine day all of my BBC stations dissapeared, then RTE. I felt like the national chord had really been cut. And I miss it ever since. The only options I have of "the english word" is CNN.!!!!!!!"++++++ Can you tell me what the cost in the UK is of a digidish. Here in Switzerland we are talking in the region of GB£2000.- !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so I put up with CNN! Cheers Brigid |
Subject: RE: BS: Radio na Gaeltachta From: GUEST,Philippa Date: 28 Apr 02 - 02:44 PM Marcus Black Wolf, I don't use audial, but I believe you can get Radio Nan Gaidheal(Scottish Gaelic)via the BBC.CO.UK website. And there are some Irish (or bilingual Irish/English)language programmes on BBC Radio Ulster, N Ireland |
Subject: RE: BS: Radio na Gaeltachta From: GUEST,Declan Date: 29 Apr 02 - 06:21 AM For all of you new found listeners to Radio Na Gaeltachta on your didgeridishes can I recommend that you tune in to Beal Maidine, broadcast between 7am and 9 am on Saturday and Sunday morning Irish time. The regular presenter is Aine Hennessy who to my mind has really excellent taste in and knowledge of folk music in general and Irish Traditional music in particular. Those of you without Gaelic will miss out on Aine's very interesting comments and news about whats happening on the trad scene, but its worth tuning in for the music alone. RnaGs policy means that Aine can't play songs in English, but there is a lot of fine singing as Gaeilge and excellent instrumental music. Aine also hosts another program (An Gaoth Aniar) about 20:00 on both Saturday & Sunday nights and Ceili na Ceadaoine (a program dedicated to Ceili Band music) on a Wednesday night. She also has a program in English (mostly) on RTE Radio One on a friday night. |
Subject: RE: BS: Radio na Gaeltachta From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 29 Apr 02 - 11:52 AM Glad to endorse Declan's last post - Áine Hennessy's shows are a great source of Irish traditional. Unfortunately I can only tune in via the internet, and they use Real Audio which gives nothing like the quality of reception I get from stations at Windowsmedia.com. (Anyone know why this would be?) |
Subject: RE: BS: Radio na Gaeltachta From: Marcus Black Wolf Date: 29 Apr 02 - 03:00 PM Thanks to all the people there who suggested websites where you can get Gaelic radio on-line. Very handy, although sadly I have to stick to just listening to the music as my Gaelic is pretty dreadful in real life - I can appreciate the singing though. Even if I do have to go and look up translations of the songs half the time. |
Subject: RE: BS: Radio na Gaeltachta From: GUEST,Philippa Date: 30 Apr 02 - 10:51 AM Áine HENSEY is indeed very busy. the RTE programme is "Late Session", Friday 10-11 pm (Greenwich time) |
