Subject: RE: FREE Jez Lowe Concert!!! From: 8_Pints Date: 12 May 02 - 07:10 PM Joan, Thanks for advertising the event for everyone. I looked out for you in the concert tent and bar, but didn't think to look in the craft tent! Hope to see you at Selby perhaps. Bob & Sue vG |
Subject: RE: FREE Jez Lowe Concert!!! From: Joan from Wigan Date: 12 May 02 - 08:11 AM Well, here's the day after, and I can say that I really enjoyed yesterday. I only saw the first part of the main concert, and thereafter was stuck in the craft tent, so while I didn't actually see Jez, what I heard was fantastic. I understand other 'Catters were there, but didn't make it to the craft tent so we missed one another completely. Ah well... The evening song session in the pub went very well, with some of the songsters from the afternoon, plus some more who hadn't been able to come in the afternoon, plus five-sixths of Bandersnatch (one band member was sick), who are an excellent band, and are definitely going to be big within the next couple of years. As a community event, the festival went off very well, attracting a fair number of local residents who enjoyed and were impressed with what was there, and hopefully there will be a repeat next year. Subject: RE: FREE Jez Lowe Concert!!! From: Joan from Wigan Date: 05 May 02 - 03:57 PM Sorry, Sue, I'm getting confused - the dates are definitely 10th/11th May - next weekend. Diz, come off the M6 at Junction 24 and take the A58 towards Hindley. It will take you through Ashton-in-Makerfield, Bryn Gates, and Platt Bridge. The Strangeways is on Liverpool Road, that part of the A58 between Platt Bridge and Hindley, and it's on the left-hand side of the road. Go to Multimap and input "244 Liverpool Road, Wigan" in the quick search box. That will give you a 1:10000 scale map with the pub ringed. Click on the "printer friendly" button for a version to print off. I'll look forward to seeing you and your friends. Joan |

Subject: RE: FREE Jez Lowe Concert!!! From: 8_Pints Date: 05 May 02 - 03:32 PM Joan, I'm a bit confused (yes I know this a fairly normal state for me!). I thought the Jubilee weekend was at the end of May. Can you confirm the date of the festival please? We'd love to see you if it is the 10th/11th May. We have a problem if it's the other one! Are you confused yet? Sue vG |
Subject: RE: FREE Jez Lowe Concert!!! From: Yvonne Date: 05 May 02 - 08:34 AM Myself (new mudcatter) and a couple of friends are coming along. Would appreciate directions from the M6 please, Joan. Thanks. |
Subject: RE: FREE Jez Lowe Concert!!! From: Joan from Wigan Date: 05 May 02 - 02:01 AM The Festival is in celebration of the regenerated woodland at Amberswood, and the winning song from the Songwriting Competition tells the plight of trees. Taking place over Jubilee weekend, it is also a contribution to the Queen's Jubilee celebrations. Funding has been made available on both these counts: from Wigan Council, Wigan & Chorley Groundwork Trust, and Awards For All (Lottery). Hence it has been possible to make this a free festival. Do take advantage of this, and who knows, there may be another next year... Joan |
