I just wanted to alert everyone to a new official expression which is coming into common usage: We Have Shatnerization!!!

This expression is to be used whenever something unutterably stupid, vapid, pointless, silly, banal, tasteless, tacky, valueless or downright grotesque has occurred or has been said or done by someone...

It could be something political, it could be a piece of music, it could be a post on the Mudcat, it could be Spaw's latest revelation concerning the state of his underwear...it could be almost anything.

If it qualifies, then simply say: We Have Shatnerization!!!

This will save you from wearing your fingers out typing long, long rebuttals, analyses, and diatribes that just repeat stuff you've already said before anyway.

The expression "We Have Shatnerization" evolved at the WSSBA, where it is proudly proclaimed as graduates march up to the podium and are handed their diplomas. It's a very moving thing to witness. Many are called, but few are chosen.

Twenty threads ago? Hell, it was old before the first thread was typed on a Commodore 64! But this degree of oldness can be advantageous in the case of rare cheeses or Scotch Whiskey, so why not in the case of Shatner?

Shatner was old before the Commodore 62 was invented!! LH, I follow your reasoning, but the comparison I'd come up with would be to VERY old hamburger, or perhaps to an eggplant that had been left in the veggie drawer for too long.

degree of oldness *can* be better, such as in wine, and certain cheeses; but what about stale beer, dead flowers, wilted lettuce, road kill?

I do believe shatner falls in the second catagory.

I see you don't know much about road kill. It is the season that is most important in harvesting road kill. It's true that in the summer when the pavement is hot, only a short cooking period is required. Winter is another story altogether. With cold pavement (or gravel, dirt, etc.) quite a lot of time is needed.

You're not one of those city slickers that just picks it up fresh, takes it home and nukes it are you?

Ah, roadkill. Tis spring here in the Merrytimes (Maritime Canada) and the moose, deer and bear are coming to the highway ditches for the road salt like moths to a flame. I just got back from Fredericton, about one and a half hours away at 118kph, and there was well over a hundred splotches - we calls er "moose juice".

Words of advice to any ferriners visiting moose country... when the day has been sunny and the night is cool, they like to stand on the road just after dark and soak up the warmth from the pavement. And they don't wear bright, reflective clothing, so slow down. The other thing is, if you see them in the ditch, slow down to about 15kph when you go by them. They often get nervous as you approach and attempt to run away from you along the easiest path - the ROAD. Most of all, pleeeeease don't stop to observe them unless you are the only vehicle for a long way... I'd rather hit a moose than you.
