Sorry not to meet you, Emma. I wore my Mudcat badge nearly all weekend, but wasn't accosted once! :0) |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Emma B Date: 06 May 03 - 03:46 PM Had a wonderful time Lovely to meet so many friends again. Sorry I couldn't join the Mudpatch cafe choir but heard their full repetoire from the caravan at the other end of the site! I'm still laughing at His Worship & the Pig thanks to the nursing staff of St Derellas and the collective latex glove orchestra (aka the audience.)-you had to be there |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: John Routledge Date: 06 May 03 - 03:33 PM The two days I had there were great. Learnt so much. Thanks to those who contributed to this - Hope they know who they are :0) |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Mr Red Date: 06 May 03 - 03:07 PM Ms Lemon They also got to hear the song - though not till the survivors session - the one I was in anyway. The landlord in the Kings head is so friendly and he was keen to open the back bar (Stable Pipe). I suggested if they had the word from the landlord next year the info was put in the programme that the Kings Head was a good place to be, and start looking for the stragglers on Monday night there. We had to decamp to the back bar because of the amplified duo in the main bar but that actually allowed singers a chance. |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: 8_Pints Date: 06 May 03 - 08:39 AM Sal, .... and you met Sue & Bob vG as well! Sue returned to look for her diabetic lemon, but unfortunately you had shut up shop. Sold-out I expect o) Bob |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: the lemonade lady Date: 06 May 03 - 07:36 AM I broke my Upton record for lemonade sales. Funny because the weather on Saturday wasn't v.g. was it? Lovely meeting Guru, Snuffy, Noreen, ColK,AlanWW, Vectis, The Ducks, Leadfingers, Abuwood, Mr Red. And so the festival season begins. Sal |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: alanww Date: 06 May 03 - 06:59 AM Brill festival - a lot of singing but also a bit of dancing and playing my concertina. It was a magical muddy cafe session late on Sunday night and the spiced rum, hot tea and chips helped too! Great to see so many good friends! "... And you said: little eyes I love you, honey ...!" Alan |

Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Mrs.Duck Date: 01 May 03 - 05:13 PM Think I've located campsite on the map. Is it opposite the church? |

Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: SussexCarole Date: 30 Apr 03 - 06:59 PM Noreen Will the lilo pumping shanty do.......... Carole |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Zany Mouse Date: 30 Apr 03 - 03:38 PM It's looking less and less likely that Mick and I will be able to go. It's a sell out! Great for the festival - well done - but not so great for us. Mick has emailed the organisers asking if there is any chance, but we don't hold out much hope. Have a great time everyone. ZM |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: JudeL Date: 30 Apr 03 - 03:35 PM Here's hoping it stays fine long enought to put the tent up. Having been watching the weather reports for the weekend the outlook isn't good. |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: John Routledge Date: 30 Apr 03 - 01:16 PM Thanks Tony- A lively discussion beats the hell out of putting a tent up :0) |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: The Admiral Date: 30 Apr 03 - 09:01 AM Alan, somehow I don't see the whole 'Shellback Chorus' getting out of bed for 10.00 on Saturday morning but the more the merrier, although it does work with just a few people, turning it into workshop and getting some lively discussion - as Snuffy will tell you! John, I don't have my copy of the working programme with me but the Methodist Hall is where it's been held before so I guess it's there again, which is a bit disconcernting for me, being used to having a pint of beer in one hand and a pipe full of baccy in the other when I sing a shanty! And yes, it does finish at noon, on time, because they're usually setting up for the next venue by then! 'It's Time To Go Now.....' Safe Journeys Everyone, we'll see you there! Tony |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: John Routledge Date: 29 Apr 03 - 08:14 PM Admiral - is your workshop in the "Methodist" premises and does it finish at 12 noon. Should get there for majority of it if my early Sat morning drive goes well. Shellbacks rehearsal meets at 12.30pm |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Nigel Parsons Date: 29 Apr 03 - 08:12 PM Mrs Duck: Peg your ground sheet all around That's the way to raise your tent Set the poles to make it sound. That's the way to raise your tent. Peg the guy lines to pull the walls out That's the way to raise your tent Add a flysheet good and stout That's the way to raise your tent So heave on guy ropes, heave and haul To build a place for one and all (other verses may follow!) Orignal was "Voyaging to Vinland" by Robert Calvert. Here Nigel |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Snuffy Date: 29 Apr 03 - 07:55 PM Sounds like it calls for a stamp-and-go (to the pub) shanty, Noreen. Haul away your flysheets ....... WassaiL! V |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Mrs.Duck Date: 29 Apr 03 - 06:17 PM It will be fairly late when we get there too as I have to work and from experience travelling can be looooooooong on Friday evening |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Noreen Date: 29 Apr 03 - 05:52 PM Just realised (duh!) that I won't be getting there til late on Friday- who's for a putting-up-tent-in-the-dark workshop? Anyone know a putting-up-tent-in-the-dark shanty? |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: alanww Date: 29 Apr 03 - 04:49 PM Where will the session be for the early birds who will be there by Friday lunchtime? White Lion? Admiral: It should be a cracking shanty workshop if all the (25 to 30) Shellbacks rouse themselves from bed in time! But somehow I doubt it! I'll try to make it myself though, Tony, but if it is one of those seeing in the dawn sessions on the Friday night, please accept my apologies now! "I thought I heard the old man say ...!" Alan |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: GUEST,skippy Date: 29 Apr 03 - 03:43 PM o/k admiral see you there "skippy" |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Folkie Date: 29 Apr 03 - 08:27 AM Vital Spark will be there on Sunday, participating in the church service at 11.00 a.m., running a workshop at 2.00 p.m. and giving a concert at 5.00 p.m. Hope to see you all. |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Zany Mouse Date: 27 Apr 03 - 11:54 AM It looks as if Mick and I will be along to Upton this year (Upton virgins as well). As this will be the first time we use the camper we will be camper virgins too. What fun! Food, Guru? ZM |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: My guru always said Date: 27 Apr 03 - 11:20 AM I may be an Upton first-timer too Noreen, am hoping to get along to join you all with a little help from my friends :-) |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Noreen Date: 27 Apr 03 - 09:05 AM Jude, Snuffy was speaking as a Shellback, who, as performers, have special arrangements- though as Jane says, this doesn't run to free weekend tickets. Looking forward to Upton; my first visit there, so be gentle with me! ...and they both jumped down together, love to hear the nightingales sing! |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Mrs.Duck Date: 27 Apr 03 - 08:43 AM I think some performers are staying on the campsite and just paying camping fees Jude and not every performer gets a ticket thrown in. |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: JudeL Date: 27 Apr 03 - 05:20 AM Snuffy: according to upton website you cannot camp on the site (£5 pp) without buying a full ticket (now £35 pp) |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Leadfingers Date: 26 Apr 03 - 09:49 PM Snuffy You are a real smartarse . I wish I'd got in first with that. |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: the lemonade lady Date: 26 Apr 03 - 03:14 PM #;-)) |
Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival From: Snuffy Date: 25 Apr 03 - 09:06 PM I didn't see The Nightingales on the list of booked acts on the website, Sal :-) |
