Subject: Why no Mudcat on weekends? From: Date: 14 Apr 98 - 10:16 AM It seems like every weekend, no matter what the presumed speed of things, I get error messages, timeouts, and just plain failure to connect to the forum. Is this heavy use, the phone company, continuing upgrades, or something else? I see on Saturday morning a 12 hour gap,on Sat afternoon a 3 hour gap and then another 4 or 5 hour gap,and then a few messages in the evening. Then on Sunday, a three hour gap in the afternoon and nothing at all Sunday evening when I was trying to sign on. The probem seem to happen in one form or other almost every weekend--which is when people are likely to want to use the database and/or forum? Is there any explanation which we can understand? |

Subject: RE: Why no Mudcat on weekends? From: Max Date: 14 Apr 98 - 11:13 AM Weekends are typically very slow, only a few postings. As far as the errors go, those are probably our fault. Beleive it or not, we spend less time in the office making sure things are working on the weekends. We know what the problem is, and only need to come up with $6000 to fix it. |

Subject: RE: Why no Mudcat on weekends? From: Roger Himler Date: 14 Apr 98 - 05:20 PM Weekends are the time I most frequently get 'blocked out.' Everything on the Web is slower on weekends because of the peak demand. I suspect there are long periods when the path to Mudcat is 'too crowded.' |
