Subject: RE: Reports from our Brussels correspondent From: Letty Date: 03 May 02 - 05:03 AM Mblmblbmmmble...deadline...grmmble OK, still at work, but coming tonight! I'll try to get to the Skievelat first. Might be a little after 21h, because I'll probably have to eat something on the way. And I finally managed to find a nice map of Brussels, now that I've found out the Flemish street names (so, if anybody else has this problem: av. des bouleaux means 'berkenlaan', Place Keym is Keymplein (isn't Dutch so much easier than French?). *grin* Now, what the hell is a skievelat? It sounds like 'scheve lat' in Dutch, which means a crooked timber. Now, that probably doesn't make much sense...
See you tonight! Letty (cum egg)

Subject: RE: Reports from our Brussels correspondent From: catspaw49 Date: 03 May 02 - 09:32 AM Sorry here Group, I wouldn't normally do this, but I thought maybe you could drink one and sing one for Murray Adelman....murray@mpce.mq.edu.au. Bob Bolton posted an Obit last night. Click for Murray's Obit Thread. Wolfgang will know that Murray was one of the very first members of Mudcat and Mooman will remember his fine and often funny contributions to the GAS and other instrument threads. Not trying to be a downer here, just thought maybe you could give him a little Mudcat send-off. Spaw |

Subject: RE: Reports from our Brussels correspondent From: GUEST,alanww Date: 03 May 02 - 07:42 PM 1.30 am Brussels time Had a great time today - sightseeing during the day (the touristy centre, the cathedral, a Rubens exhibition, various beers, coffee and patisseries and even some oysters ...) and a wonderful evening. Wolfgang arrived, having hitched (or so he said), and so did Letty, Llanfair and MudGuard (separately!) and lots of friends. There was eating, drinking (lots), music and singing and a very appreciative audience. Some photos have been taken and no doubt they will appear in due course (having been edited to eliminate the incriminating evidence!) Now for tea and liqueurs ... More people arriving tomorrow - safe journey everyone! Bright morning stars arising ... |
Subject: RE: Reports from our Brussels correspondent From: GUEST,Noreen Date: 03 May 02 - 07:49 PM Lots of wonderful music, singing and good company. mooman played a lovely tune in memory of Murray as requested. Tired now, don't think there will be room in mooman's car in the (early) morning when he goes to pick up the Yorkshire crowd, so may as well stay in bed... Noreen |
Subject: RE: Reports from our Brussels correspondent From: GUEST,mooman (deprived of his cookie) Date: 03 May 02 - 08:03 PM 2am Brussels time Back from the Skievelat. We expected 14 to eat and got 22! The brasserie was very welcoming and the other clients really appreciated all the music and song. Played a slow Shetland air "The Resting Chair" in memory of Murray. I hope he is resting peacefully now. I'm up early tomorrow to collect the Lads from God's Own County from "Brussels South" airport (actually in a completely different city...Charleroi!) Pictures have been taken and will be posted up soon! Best wishes to all, mooman |

Subject: RE: Reports from our Brussels correspondent From: GUEST,Skipjack K8 Date: 05 May 02 - 09:27 AM Haven't read all the stuff here, despite the PC being located in EtV's passion palace. Having a braw time; went for an 8 miler run round Brussels to blow away the cobwebs and Quack beer. It must've been said before, and it'll be said again, but these Moos are the mostest. Off to Waterloo now, might write a tune on the strength of it. Skipjack |
Subject: RE: Reports from our Brussels correspondent From: GUEST,Noreen Date: 05 May 02 - 12:44 PM Ceili last night was indeed memorable! Waterloo was very wet and windy, but we should have expected that from the name, as MudGuard said. Warmed up by Lady Mcmoo's yummy Polish stew (not made with Duraglit, as far as I know), Palm and Framboise, and about to wish MudGuard Bon Voyage to the airport. More later. Noreen |
Subject: RE: Reports from our Brussels correspondent From: MudGuard Date: 05 May 02 - 05:42 PM Just to let you know: I made it safely home. My back is getting better (due to first-class treatment during the flight). More tomorrow, after a good night's sleep... Andy/MudGuard/Andreas |

Subject: RE: Reports from our Brussels correspondent From: GUEST,mooman (zonder cookie) Date: 05 May 02 - 06:04 PM Dear Friends, Brussels: Sunday 23h50 Just a brief note to keep you updated! Festivities are continuing at Mooland at this very moment with those still around singing and playing including Noreen, Linda Kelly, Skipjack K8, Eric the Viking (guitar wounded but not fatally by a catastrophic strap failure), Bill\Sables, alanww, Matthew Edwards, Lady Mcoo and myself. A few more just left but we were joined by a new friend from last night Quasi whose fingers deserved to be chopped off for showing the rest of us up on the guitar! As the host for this Gathering I have to say the pleasure has been completely mine for having such a wonderful, talented bunch of people visiting us here. Over the weekend we have made many new musical friends in a marvellous atmosphere. I'm quite sure many of these new friendships will remain for a very long time. For me, this is the power and true heart of the Mudcat...bringing people together with a common interest and love of the music and I must thank Max and his helpers for making this all possible. Others will be adding their contributions but I specially wanted to say thank you to all our visiting 'Catters...they have been a complete delight and to the Mudcat in general for enabling me to meet so many wonderful people and to make so many good friends. Very best regards to all, mooman |
Subject: RE: Reports from our Brussels correspondent From: GUEST,Linda Kelly Date: 05 May 02 - 06:17 PM All hail to the Moos! Splendiferous hosts which has made this weekend a complete delight!!! Sang our little socks off and eaten Richard and Pat out of house and home. Tomorrow we will explore the delights of old Brussels and return to the UK on Tuesday - a truly memorable occasion. Roll on Euro 2003....(PS Mudguard has escaped an entire weekend without me causing him bodily harm or injury -I must be losing it) |
Subject: RE: Reports from our Brussels correspondent From: GUEST,alanww Date: 05 May 02 - 06:50 PM Brussels: Monday 0.45hrs What can I say - wonderful singing, music, companionship with friends (some old & some new), and hospitality at Mooland fit for royalty. Memorable ceilidh last night - not like the usual one in the UK, which consists of dancing and, if you are lucky, an interval spot - but instead a lot of spots and a little dancing, for the children at the start and for the adults at the end. Brilliant - even a spot from a barbershop quartet, which (I think) consisted of one from each of England, Japan, Canada and the USA! Today has been great too, despite the wet weather at the trip to Waterloo, chilling out with a great group of people. I even managed to persuade Bill\Sables to sing his own composition Whitby Fishermen (using his own words and the tune and chorus of Blessed Quietness) - thanks Bill! Got to go now and sing When the Dark Time Ends with Noreen and Linda Kelly. The Gather round circle of friends ... |
Subject: RE: Reports from our Brussels correspondent From: GUEST,alanww Date: 05 May 02 - 07:14 PM Brussels: Monday 1.05hrs Just sung Until the Dark Time Ends [correct title this time] accompanying Noreen and Linda Kelly and it was much appreciated. Big thanks to Allouette Iselin from Nelson, New Hampshire, who wrote it. I am told she is a friend of another Mudcatter, Animaterra. Singing in sweet harmony ... |

Subject: RE: Reports from our Brussels correspondent From: Llanfair Date: 06 May 02 - 05:54 AM Have you had a problem with your back, Andy? Glad you got home safely. I am typing this message from the European Parliament building. My friend Marjorie works here, and we´re going to do lunch in a bit. Mooman and Lady McMoo, we are planning to drop in this afternoon, but don´t worry if you have other plans. I´m going on a guided tour now!!!! Cheers, Bron. |
Subject: RE: Reports from our Brussels correspondent From: Wolfgang Date: 06 May 02 - 07:21 AM A big thank you to the Brussels organising committee (family). You've done a great job. One of these years we shall make the gathering in Iceland as a kind of compromise for the Americans. But don't tell skarpi yet. This way it will be a bigger surprise for him when twenty odd show up at his doorstep without any warning. Or for us when he's not at home and we have to camp in Iceland's May sleet outside of the tents for inside are the instruments... Wolfgang |
