And I finally managed to find a nice map of Brussels, now that I've found out the Flemish street names (so, if anybody else has this problem: av. des bouleaux means 'berkenlaan', Place Keym is Keymplein (isn't Dutch so much easier than French?). *grin* Now, what the hell is a skievelat? It sounds like 'scheve lat' in Dutch, which means a crooked timber. Now, that probably doesn't make much sense...

Wolfgang arrived, having hitched (or so he said), and so did Letty, Llanfair and MudGuard (separately!) and lots of friends. There was eating, drinking (lots), music and singing and a very appreciative audience. Some photos have been taken and no doubt they will appear in due course (having been edited to eliminate the incriminating evidence!) Now for tea and liqueurs ... More people arriving tomorrow - safe journey everyone! Bright morning stars arising ... |

We expected 14 to eat and got 22! The brasserie was very welcoming and the other clients really appreciated all the music and song. Played a slow Shetland air "The Resting Chair" in memory of Murray. I hope he is resting peacefully now. I'm up early tomorrow to collect the Lads from God's Own County from "Brussels South" airport (actually in a completely different city...Charleroi!) Festivities are continuing at Mooland at this very moment with those still around singing and playing including Noreen, Linda Kelly, Skipjack K8, Eric the Viking (guitar wounded but not fatally by a catastrophic strap failure), Bill\Sables, alanww, Matthew Edwards, Lady Mcoo and myself. A few more just left but we were joined by a new friend from last night Quasi whose fingers deserved to be chopped off for showing the rest of us up on the guitar! As the host for this Gathering I have to say the pleasure has been completely mine for having such a wonderful, talented bunch of people visiting us here. Over the weekend we have made many new musical friends in a marvellous atmosphere. I'm quite sure many of these new friendships will remain for a very long time. For me, this is the power and true heart of the Mudcat...bringing people together with a common interest and love of the music and I must thank Max and his helpers for making this all possible. Others will be adding their contributions but I specially wanted to say thank you to all our visiting 'Catters...they have been a complete delight and to the Mudcat in general for enabling me to meet so many wonderful people and to make so many good friends. Memorable ceilidh last night - not like the usual one in the UK, which consists of dancing and, if you are lucky, an interval spot - but instead a lot of spots and a little dancing, for the children at the start and for the adults at the end. Brilliant - even a spot from a barbershop quartet, which (I think) consisted of one from each of England, Japan, Canada and the USA! Today has been great too, despite the wet weather at the trip to Waterloo, chilling out with a great group of people. I even managed to persuade Bill\Sables to sing his own composition Whitby Fishermen (using his own words and the tune and chorus of Blessed Quietness) - thanks Bill! Got to go now and sing When the Dark Time Ends with Noreen and Linda Kelly.The Gather round circle of friends ... |
