Excuse me, but you've got the words WRONG! ;-)

The correct lyrics are:
No more pencils
No more books
No more teachers dirty looks!
Out for summer, out till fall
We might not come back at all

I always thought it was:

No more classes,
No more kids
I wonder where the gin is hid?
The summer off, is that all?
Then back to classes we must crawl!

I also found these appropriate lines:

When the teacher rings the bell
Drop your books and run like hell

One of the songs that I always thought of as we entered Finals week was "The Book Report" fugue from "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" - the full lyrics are here, but Charlie Brown's segment of it always struck home for me:

If I start writing now
When I'm not really rested
It could upset my thinking
Which is no good at all.
I'll get a fresh start tomorrow
And it's not due till Wednesday
So I'll have all of Tuesday
Unless something should happen.

Why does this always happen,
I should be outside playing
Getting fresh air and sunshine,
I work best under pressure,
And there'll be lots of pressure
If I wait till tomorrow
I should start writing now.

But I if I start writing now
When I'm not really rested
It could upset my thinking
Which is
No good at all.

Schoolday's over
Come on then John
Time to be getting the pit boots on...

Can't remember any more off the top of my head but it's a lovely song. I think it's one of Ewan MacColls.

Cheers,
Michael

I must have been a truly vile child . . .

Glory, glory, hallelujah! Teacher hit me with a ruler, Met her at the door with a Magnum .44, And she ain't my teacher no more.

. . . Met her at the bank with a Sherman army tank, . . .

. . . Met her in the attic with an Uzi automatic, . . .

by the time we were in college, we'd gotten all abstract and artsy and switched to "Running On Empty", "I Just Dropped In To See What Condition My Condition Was In", the "kill, kill, KILL!" passage of "Alice's Restaurant Massacree" and, for some obscure reason, "Hotel California".

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the burning of the school
We have trampled all the teachers we have broken every rule
We flooded the principal's office and we used it for a pool, and the school goes burning on
...so I hit her in the butt with a rotten coconut and the school goes burning on

...so I hit her in the behin' with a rotten tangeri-ine and the school goes burning on...

How could I have forgotten that?

And I KNEW it was teacher's dirty looks but since I'm the teacher, not the student, I thought I could rewrite the lyrics slightly... ain't that the folk process, anyway?
