Well, you all may remember about four months ago, a small fire next door and my being evacuated by the lads and lassie of Engine 33, Ladder 9, the fire house from the song I wrote about September 11th... Well, it happened again last night. I was watching TV, rather knackered, and the picture went off during a commercial, causing me to fall asleep for about two minutes. I came too, and realized something was not quite right, half the electric in the apartment was off. None of the circuit breakers were tripped... I kept trying to find a tripped breaker, as the refrigerator was also off ... then I noticed flashing lights out the window, so I got dressed and wandered down to find the hall filled with smoke and my old pals of Engine 33, Ladder 9, Engine 28 Ladder 11, Engine 3 and it's ladder as well as a few others. As usual, Anne of Ladder 9 was in the lead, she was down in my basement, under the theater, audience members flooding out of the building, seems a surge in the power on our block knocked out power in about half the buildings, and set fire to an air-conditioning motor in the theater. As usual they stopped a small fire from becoming a big one.
Funny thing though, my first thought was, Geeze, Genie and I didn't clean the house, and Lou, and Anne and PJ are going to think we really live like this! That was more concern than the fire! Well, all is well and the lights back on ... and once again,
Ner' pass a fire house without a brief pause
and thank all the heroes who work on those engines...
each day they risk all in humanities cause...
Cheers Larry

I remember when a friend had a car crash. "Jerry had a crash - a car ran into the back of him." "God, it didn't damage the istruments did it" was the immediate response.

So here - the Pipes are all right aren't they Larry?

Glad everyone & everything is safe, Larry -

By the way, your CD deserves to be marketed, (aggressively) - it's been a great addition to our collection - one of many I've been able to purchase thanks to the semi-sage counsel of the 'Catters.

God bless the Firefighters !

M.

After my neighbors suffered a fire, I started wearing nighties again. Scratching cats and staring firemen would be too much to bear.

SMOKE DETECTORS, everyone! The lady next door had disconnected hers for some half-assed reason. It almost cost her her life.

Larry,
Is it time to consider a new home? his gets scary after a while.
M, who also loves your CD.

Unlike the last time, I didn't grab the pipes! I thought the loss of the electric was coincidental at first, and saw the lights of the fire engines, so I went down to see who was in trouble... had NO idea it was me, went back to clear out the neighbors, but I put the pipes in god's hands, and well, everything went well... God bless Firefights everywhere, and watch over rare instruments!
Cheers all, Larry

SINSULL,

And CO detectors as well! That shit is even worse than smoke, because with smoke you have the odor, the burning in the eyes, the coughing, and the choking. That gives you enough warning so you have a fighting chance to do something to save yourself. With carbon monoxide you just nod off and die.

And if InOBU won't take this opportunity to plug his Sorcha Dorcha CD, I will. It's pretty darn good, and if you haven't already heard it you should give it a gander. I particularly recommend the song about the New Saint, and also The Riddle of the Rum, which together make for a really nice balance of anti-Catholic and anti-Protestant songs. (Is it true that Connolly designed the Irish Tricolour with the white stripe representing free thinkers like himself?)

Hey InOBU - you got a season ticket or something???

Funny how coincidences keep happening.... I got rescued by the same ambulance crew 3 times in one year - 2 asthma attacks and a caesarean blowout (an embolism burst out, rather than going in, for which I'm intensely grateful but it was very messy and took out the newly healing scar.....), I think they appreciated the variety of the last.... the attacks were getting a bit tedious.
