Has anybody heard of this song? I was told that it was a Shetland song but have not been able to come up with anything.

Thanks

Bill.

MMario & Sorcha,

Thanks for your efforts. I'll go back to the guy who asked if I'd heard it and see if he can remember anything more about it.

Cheers,

Bill.

Could it be a song called 'Hunted on the Hillside' ? about pressganging in the Shetlands? If so, it was written by Bobby Tulloch and I have a tape of Cilla Fisher and Artie Trezise singing it and will transcibe it if you think it could be the one. The Chorus is

Why, why can't they let our islands be?
Our men fight hard enough to get their living frae the sea.
Will the day never dawn when their freedon is secure?
It's one law for the rich 'uns and another for the poor.

Cheers.

According to http://users.argonet.co.uk/users/gatherer/scottish/artists/fish2.html -

"Hunted on the Hillside," by Brian Tulloch, was recorded by Cilla Fisher & Artie Trezise on "Reaching Out" (Kettle Records KOP-17, 1986).

Dear Jim

Thank you for the correction. My Cilla and Artie tape is a very old recording made at a folk festival, rather than a commercial one, and I ovbiously misheard the author's name in the introduction, which just goes to show that you shouldn't trust bootleg recordings!! Regardless of the recording quality, the song is still excellent, though!

Thanks all, well done I will now go and look for it.

Impressed as ever when I have to find things like this.

Cheers,

Bill.
